Open Question: Are there affordable skin care products that won't cause cancer?

I recently discovered that many skin care and hair care products can cause cancer. I am trying to lead the healthiest lifestyle I can and I was wondering if there are any organic or natural products out there? Also, I am very much so on a budget, so any websites that are inexpensive or any "do it yourself" style recipes for home, would be great! I am looking for all types of products from skin care, to shave gel and toothpaste and shampoo:) Thanks so much in advance!

Open Question: Is tresemme unhealthy for your hair?

I'm a tiny bit wary of using it, hearing of chemical build up and hair loss and all that waffle. I'm also considering Schwarzkopf's stuff. Simply put is non-organic hair products going to srew with my hair later? I've stuck to the natural stuff before, e.g body shop e.t.c. If I'm using the shampoo, conditioner, heat defence spray, hair spray and leave in conditioner shiny type thing, is that going to wreck my hair? Do you have any suggestions of any good hair products, or brand, that wouldn't cost too much and be healthy for my hair? Thanks. =)

Open Question: what can help me with greasy oily scalp?

I always had alot of hair but since my early teens I've been very harsh on my hair and scalp. From dyeing, bleashing, perms, etc and sometimes not even hair product that I used. But the issue I've always have since little girl is that I have very greasy and oily scalp. and sometimes using some shampoos will give me dandruff.. yuk so luckly I havent been getting dandruff but I need to wash my hair everyday and sometimes more then once because I can smell the bad odor from my hair. For example I wash my hair style it with a flat iron add some anti-freeze product and it smells clean then at the end of my 8hr shift I can smell the odor coming from my hair/scalp. and even if i wash my hair and dont put any type of products it will still smell in a few hours. What can I do??? Do I need to do that wash my hair constantly for ever??. or is something I can used to prevent the smell and gresyness and oilyness?? for the past year I have been using a organic shampoo and conditioner and it has work wonders in the way of shinny managable and healthy but the rest is still there I dont want to use something it will dry my hair or even damage I'll rather do some home-made mix to help me I need help!

Open Question: Need someone to review this essay?

Is composting an efficient way of reducing trash? Draft 2# Garbage is an arduous task troubling communities across the country, but it’s peculiar why the situation hasn’t yet to be resolved. It takes an ingenuous idea for these issues, even though they do not get acknowledged for. They involve the participation of a community to contribute with waste removal. One of the many efficient ways of reducing garbage consumption is composting, because twenty-six percent of landfills are occupied by organic waste. It is not unusual to wonder what composting is, and how it improves with garbage consumption. It is a technique that has been practiced by farmers for centuries . From the foods consumed by average American families, to the clipping of flowers, everything organic can be added with a compost bin. The next steps involve adding worms, oxygen, and eventually allowing the decomposition process to happen by turning it over; with enough time, the compost turns into fertilizer . The fertilizer is the material used to add fertility to the soil, bringing life into it. Ultimately, it becomes used for the city and/or the residents personal uses. Throughout nature, the process is played out by the decomposition of dead animals and plant life. The organic materials are broken down into their’s simplest states, to then be absorbed back into the Earth. It’s purposes got manipulated by man, having it’s first accounts sited since the Roman Era. It’s practices were used by peasant farmers who needed to fertilized their soil. Similar to today, the whole process is done either indoors or outdoors, and is still known to be an efficient way of fertilizing soil for. Just recently, quiet a few companies- such as Nature Mill- have been trying to exploit this practice and make it user friendly. Typically many eco friendly Americans either dump their waste in a compost bin in the back yard and allow it to decompose, but this device allows the whole process to happen in the home. The whole process happens in a matter of weeks instead of the prolonged period of time that it takes The price for these type of products start high, but eventually decrease when it’s in high demand. In conclusion, composting has been doubted by many Americans because their reluctant to have it as a permanent solution. It takes dedication to allow the accumulation of unwanted materials to decompose in either a person’s home or backyard. The practice of it has been used throughout the world, having it’s main usage used by farmers. In the present day, it has been slowly matriculating into the commercial market and does have potential. Composting is only one of the many ways of reducing a persons garbage load, yet it still will take more creative and innovative ideas for a permanent solution.

Resolved Question: Website and book recommendations to help me get environmentally savy?

I'm a mother to a 20 month old, and lately, after reading several articles in some parenting magazines about all the harmful chemicals that reside in things from plastics and canned food to furniture and clothing, I finally feel like my eyes are open, and I now realize that I should take a firm stand against inadvertently introducing these toxins to me and my family. I want to learn more about what plastics to avoid, what contains BPA and other harmful toxins. I need book and website recommendations to help me with safe product selection from food items to beauty products and cleaning supplies. I have already been recycling and buying almost all organic food but I realize now that it's not enough to just buy organic if I'm lathering on chemical laden lotion and sunblock on my son, washing our clothes with chemical-laden detergent and such I feel a little panicked to be honest and just want to be able to eliminate chemicals from our household as quickly as possible. I just need to educate myself first. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated! Oh, and I'd also love a website recommendation for chemical-free and environmentally friendly toys if such a website exists.

Voting Question: Can you tell me where to buy or find an organic/paraben free eyeshadow palette?

Okay, so I want to buy the 88 Palette, but my mom wants me to buy the organic stuff. I want organic, I LOVE organic things, so I am not going against her. But she keeps on looking at the ones that have only 5 or 6 colors. I am getting rid of the millions of cheap little kid junk people gave me. So I don't want 12 containers when I can get a nice palette. So if there is anything paraben free or organic palettes please write it. The 88 palette: http://makeupandbeautytutorials.com/wp-content/uploads/cs_palette1.jpg Some that my mom looks at and I don't want: http://www.lazyenvironmentalist.com/wp-content/uploads/wpsc/product_images/eye_shadow_palette.jpg So if there is a website or a store that you know, please, do write it here. I don't want to look at people putting stupid answers like "buy what you want" or something cheap from $ Tree or a brand that sells bad cosmetics because I am going to research the brand/cosmetic. Thank you and have a nice day! P.S I were makeup and I will not wear it like hoochies and old ladies when they try to be hot.

Voting Question: Will some smarty pants tell me what this means..BIG words..I don't understanduhmostly anything?

I want to take biotin for hair growth and healthbut I don't know if taking it lowers my metabolism?..which i don't want.makes me fat?..which i don't wantit read fat somewhere in there.sorry Biotin is a coenzyme in the metabolism of fatty acids and leucine, and it plays a role in gluconeogenesis. Biotin is necessary for cell growth, the production of fatty acids, and the metabolism of fats and amino acids. It plays a role in the citric acid cycle, which is the process by which biochemical energy is generated during aerobic respiration. Biotin not only assists in various metabolic reactions but also helps to transfer carbon dioxide. Biotin may also be helpful in maintaining a steady blood sugar level. Inherited metabolic disorders characterized by deficient activities of biotin-dependent carboxylases are termed multiple carboxylase deficiency. These include deficiencies in the enzymes holocarboxylase synthetase or biotinidase. Holocarboxylase synthetase deficiency prevents the body's cells from using biotin effectively, and thus interferes with multiple carboxylase reactions.[16] Biochemical and clinical manifestation includes: ketolactic acidosis, organic aciduria, hyperammonemia, skin rash, feeding problems, hypotonia, seizures, developmental delay, alopecia, and coma. Biotinidase deficiency is not due to inadequate biotin, but rather to a deficiency in the enzymes that process it. Biotinidase catalyzes the cleavage of biotin from biocytin and biotinyl-peptides (the proteolytic degradation products of each holocarboxylase) and thereby recycles biotin. It is also important in freeing biotin from dietary protein-bound biotin.[17] General symptoms include decreased appetite and growth. Dermatologic symptoms include dermatitis, alopecia (hair loss) and achromotrichia (absence or loss of pigment in the hair).[18] Perosis (a shortening and thickening of bones) is seen in the skeleton. Fatty liver and kidney syndrome (FLKS) and hepatic steatosis also can occur.

Voting Question: Why do I keep burping?

I keep burping, like not just short burps I mean big roaring burps! I am laying in bed, lights off, covers up, watching Dare(great movie) on Netflix on my laptop before I go to bed and I just randomly start burping continuously. I was burping a little when I was getting ready for bed and brushing my teeth and stuff but not like this. It's really loud and when I don't open my mouth it's like this huge roaring sound, like a growl or something. It sounds really weird like it could be like demonic growling or something I'm serious that's how bad it is! I am lactose intolerant but I usually drink milk anyway. Dairy products I had today were a little bit of cheese and a taste of ice cream (I mean a taste, not even an actual bowl or anything I just snuck a finger-full) I usually actually eat more dairy than this and sometimes I even have a glass of milk (Nature's Promise is really delicious, organic, gluton-free, and fat-free milk you gotta try it) but I have never had this happen. The burping really hurts my chest and I want to stop! Sometimes I'll get this gross taste in my mouth and sometimes I'll even vomit in my mouth a little and it's disgusting! Please please please please pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help it hurts me so much!

Resolved Question: What is a good diet for me to follow?

I have cut down on practically all dairy products. I drink organic goat milk from time to time, which is pasteurised; my parents won't let me buy the fresh stuff. I love fruit and veg and consume both liberally. I drink plenty of bottled water (bottled because I live in a fluoridated area). What I eat/drink daily: Breakfast: Omega 3 Capsule with a glass of water. Wholewheat pasta/ Porridge (with full fat milk because it doesn't go with goat milk) and a banana. Snack: Cut fruits: An apple, plum, peach and a pear. Pack of baked wholegrain crisps (sunbites). + two glasses of water. Lunch: Chicken/ Fish/ Egg + carb: potato/wholegrain rice + veg: peas/ broccoli/baby spinach and water cress salad + a glass of water. Snack - Cake/ Biscuits/ Chips/ etc. - basically something unhealthy followed by sunflower seeds/ pumpkin seeds/ another antioxidant. + 3 glasses of water. Dinner - Veg curry and more fruit. + a glass of water. (like to keep dinner light because I had a sleep problem) Is this okay? Am I eating enough? I used to eat a lot more but after I opted for being healthy I find I don't have enough variety to eat as much. Do I need to be drinking more milk? If so is soy milk a better option? Also am I consuming enough carbs? Thank You. P.S. I am skinny but healthy in most aspects (i have/ had anaemia). I have a very high metabolism so I can be on a high fat diet without it affecting my weight drastically.

Resolved Question: Is this website trustworthy to serve quality products?

http://www.ultimatejewelz.com/ It's a body jewelry website. I was looking on their website at their plugs ("gauges"), which are generally quite expensive for organic ones. On websites like http://www.onetribe.nu their plugs (in pairs) can range from $35+ to over $100. This website, they're all about $3 for a single plug. How can I be sure that they're a secure website? Because, plugs that cheap are too good to be true. Example link to a plug I like: http://www.ultimatejewelz.com/product_info.php?cPath=32_62&products_id=242

Resolved Question: Is Cheryl (use only 1 square of tp) Crow taking things too far with her demands at concerts?

Is the amount of ENERGY needed to procure her items more than if things were left alone? Are her demands unreasonable or are some of them okay? She needs 2 tour buses and 2 semi trucks to haul all her stuffhypocriteif she can make money it's okay to pollute? http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/celebrity/sheryl-crow-queen-green AUGUST 11--Touring the United States and Europe this year, Sheryl Crow arrives at venues with an assortment of environmental demands certain to vex concert promoters, according to a review of the musician’s 2010 backstage rider. The document, excerpted here, actually has a 2-1/2 page “environmental portion” to be “strictly followed and policed.” Seeking to “minimize the overall environmental impact of our tour,” Crow demands that only biodegradable cups and dinnerware be used by the caterer. Produce should be “organic and purchased from local suppliers as much as possible.” And for the five backstage “watering stations,” water “must be sourced from a local spring water vendor.” According to Crow’s rider, her tour party travels between gigs in two 45-foot buses, while her equipment is packed into two tractor-trailers. Crow, 48, also offers promoters “venue greening suggestions.” She wants “traditional light bulbs” swapped out for compact fluorescent bulbs in “all offices, dressing rooms and common areas.” “Eco-friendly cleaning and bathroom products” and “post-consumer recycled toilet paper and paper towel” should also be used. Crow’s rider also notes that, “We strongly encourage you to use renewable sources and/or to buy sustainable energy credits where possible. Many local utilities offer ‘green power’ as an option--please check with yours and opt in.” The document also details how Crow’s backstage hospitality room is to be stocked. The singer needs an assortment of “biodegradable non-petroleum cups” and 24 “disposable napkins made of 100% recycled fiber.” Crow’s rider also lists a wide variety of drinks and snacks that she needs, including organic coconut water and two bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon (“Sheryl’s Favorite” is Stag’s Leap Artemis). Two “good quality, dark, organic chocolate bars” are described as “***VERY IMPORTANT***”

Resolved Question: Changing shampoo brands, what is in your opinion the best brand for..?

I'm changing my shampoo and conditioner since I feel like I need something different for my curly frizzy (damaged tip) hair. At this moment I use Matrix Essentials Sleek Look (the orange bottle) both shampoo and conditioner. I think it works well but I feel as if I need something different to calm my hair down more. I've used different products in the past (yes, like tresemme and whatnot) and I'm not fond of them. I'm looking for something that will soften my hair more and is healthy. The best shampoo/conditioner I've tried was the Chi Organic Olive Oil but I want to risk try something else. If you can please suggest to me =) what you've tried and has worked well for you. Also, if anyone knows what material to look out for while buying shampoo and conditioner please include it. (Like what kind of material to avoid ex: like those acids and etc.) Thanks :D

So let's say I wear a product (such as foundation, sunscreen, moisturizer) on my face that clogs pores (comedogenic) and isn't oil free. My skin is is mildly sensitive. I'm a teenager so I break out a lil anyway. So far, I've found that Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer broke me out. I'm disappointed since I looove Physician's Formula. But what if I wore that again but remove it out extremely well before i go to bed. Will I still break out? I use Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser which removes and cleanses in one.

Resolved Question: Is "lacto-ovo pescatarian" the correct term for a vegetarian who eats fish, eggs, and dairy products?

I know that vegetarians do not eat fish, I only phrased the question like that because I don't know how else to ask it. Off-topic question: Is organic milk really better to buy? I've been told that "farms" that produce organic milk treat the animals better, but to my understanding organic only means that the animals were fed no hormones or chemicals (therefore they're still probably milked in factories under horrible conditions, right?). Is there any way to know that the eggs or milk that you buy comes from a humane environment? Thank you.

I had my hair high lighted at an aveda salon with 95% organic ingredients when I was around 8 weeks pregnant. My sister in law said it was fine as the dye doesn't tough the hair and aveda is a safe product. Now I am reading otherwise! I feel really badly but I seriously didn't know I could pose a risk to my baby? I didn't hardly smell any fumes in the salon and the hair dresser knew I was pregnant so she avoided my scalp. Has anyone done this and everything turned out okay? sorryI meant to say as the dye doesn't touch the scalp

Resolved Question: I want to like meat, how?

I have been a strict vegetarian since I was 3 because it repulsed me to be eating a dead animal, but now I am older and I have found that not eating meat has slowed down my development and I want to start eating some (humane, organic kind) again. The only problem is that now the very sight, smell, and taste of meat gtosses me out. How can I learn to enjoy meat? P.S. Please excuse any mis-spells because it is late and I am tired P.P.S. I have started eating eggs but that is it (I also eat milk products) Thanks alot, everyone's answers were helpful. For those of you who were wondering, I am a teen and my diet right now is not very balanced because I don't really eat many protein supplements. But what you guys heped me figure is that if I am going to try to slowly introduce meat into my diet, I might as well just try to introduce tofu and other supplements into it instead. Also thanks for the soup and pasta ideas those will help me get used to the new foods.

Resolved Question: How Would I Go About Starting My Own Product Line?

I was talking with someone, she said that its about $500.00 to have scientist test out any beauty products that you want to market. Does anyone have any information on how I can get started? I already know what tools I need, how I want it packedI mean EVERYTHING. Its just that this has been put on hold because of the cost of scientist, etc. I want my product to be organic so Im not sure if I even need a scientist. Thanks Btw, I am still in college so $500 is steep at the moment. Thanks agian.

Voting Question: Scientifically based, proven skin care?

I would be very grateful if you would take the time to write an article about how to make up a skin regiment out of ingredients you might already have around the house- mostly in the kitchen probably. Don't get me wrong. i am not by any means advocating that the use of so called "natural" ingredient is somehow more beneficial in any way to the skin - taking that as a fact, as most people do, would be just stupid, with no bases in science, but in folklore and lack of sufficient scientific information. All matter in the universe is made up of atoms, and every single carbon atom for example, would be absolutely chemically identical to every single other carbon atom. Well, there are differences in the number of electrons - carbon atoms with different number of electrons are called ions, and differences in the number of neutrons, which make up isotopes, if there are differences in the number of protons, that'll be a different chemical element, but my point was referring to the fact that a naturally occurring carbon atom and a man synthesized one, providing they are identical in electron and neutrons numbers, do not, in any way, behave differently. Therefore all ingredients used in cosmetics, whether natural or man-made, have to be the subject of the same safety regulations. "Natural" doesn't really have an official definition in the first place - in the E.U. at least it doesn't - and in my opinion that's a good thing! ill explain in a minute - and without regulations, any company could promote their products as being natural which due to popular belief translates as better and as a result, to bigger sales for the company making the claim. The truth of the matter is, everything out there is natural! so a definition or regulation restricting the use of the term would not be required. Organic, sure, that's another thing, it refers to a more specific concept, but "natural", i simply can not imagine anything from this universe or a parallel one that is unnatural! This is a paradox in my opinion! Well, back to less philosophical and more practical stuff, the reason i am asking u to write such an article is that, financially, we're all having a hard time in this period, and no matter how cheap a cosmetic product is, ultimately, it is going to have a monetary cost - we live in a monetary sistem, everything has a cost, Further more, although "organic" or "naturally occurring" and "good for your skin" are not interchangeable, there is certainly a lot of stuff to be found in a household kitchen that can have potentially beneficial ingredients for your skin. Again, the reason im asking this is purely money, not false beneficial claims related to "natural" products. Also, im not referring to old, dated, or superstition based remedies, but on scientifically proven ingredients. im sure there are some to be found in there somewhere! most of the state of the art ingredients used in expensive skin care are ultimately derived from plants and plant extracts, very few are actually entirely synthesized in a chemical laboratory, For example, i read that the two primary proteins contained in milk, casein and whey, applied topically can have good water-binding properties. Caffeine has potential as an antioxidant. Resveratrol found in red grapes and red wine has anti-inflammatory properties, green tea is an antioxidants and has anti-inflammation properties, pomegranate is also antioxidant and has anticancer properties. When the financial situation demands it, people can afford to cut loose on cosmetics. Food is another story. You have to eat in order to live - so in one way, food is forever! or at least as long as you live.
