CANNON BEACH LOG: COMPOST HAPPENS
All we do as a family is collect organic matter from our kitchen, stuff we'd normally put down the garbage disposal or throw out in the trash. All this organic matter gets collected in plastic containers in our kitchen.

Open Question: So, would you say vegans are more in it for morality and vegetarians for health?
Like vegans not only eat the same as a "strict" vegetarian but they do not wear or use any animals products whatsoever. Like they [vegans] more so focus on animal rights as where a vegetarian can do as well, but do so in an organic matter. I don't know if i am making sense but like, let me put t this way.
it seems vegetarians are more in it for health reasons.
Vegans on the other hand are more in it for animal rights and health. [maybe, it would depend upon their reason fo being vegan]
So, who MORE so do you think is it in, vegan and vegetarian, for health reasons?
This is a genuine question. I do not mean to strain relationships between vegans and vegetarians. I am just wondering the answer[s]to this question.
Hey! I got a star! :D
Open Question: Biochar is produced by pyrolysis. Should I be concerned with carcinogens created going into the garden?
My main concern in putting it in the garden would be that pyrolysis (high temperature decomposition with low or zero oxygen avialable) of organic matter tends to produce polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as benzo(a)pyrene, which are carcinogens. The same compounds that gave the English chimney sweeps cancer in the 19th century. There is plenty of residue of these compounds in urban soils already due to historic coal burning and the soot from combustion engines. Urban sites typically have levels of PAHs exceeding established standards for direct contact in a residential setting.
Open Question: What are my chances of passing the biology and/or natural sciences CLEP exams?
I have had anatomy, physiology, microbiology, organic and inorganic chemistry and I have a bachelor's degree in nursing (graduated in May of 2008). I worked in hospitals as an extern and as an RN for three years.
I am currently in college again, this time trying to obtain a degree in Elementary Education. It's my passion and I did not even like nursing in the slightest bit. But back to the subject matter at hand, do you think my knowledge obtained during nursing school would help me pass the CLEP exams for biology and/or natural science? A basic introductory to biology course and two natural sciences courses are required for my education degree and they do not waive classes/count other classes very much. I had to fight to get the first aid/CPR for children course requirement waived! I worked in the pediatric intensive care unit and am certified in pediatric advanced life support.
I bought study books for both exams.
Also, any tips? How much should I plan to study? I currently have 16 hours and work as a substitute teacher 16-24 hours a week. I plan to take 6 to 9 credit hours this summer and I am thinking summer may be a better time to take the exams. Just hate that I can't retake one for six months in case I fail.
Thanks so much for your answers!

Open Question: Does anyone really reject evoltuion?
It has, I'm sorry to say, been proven.
The biggest mark against creation by design comes from an experiment done in a laboratory, to test abiogenisis, the theory that organic matter can arise from inorganic matter.
A "primeval soup" was prepared, similar to the chemicals the earth had early in it's history. All of these chemicals were then subjected to an electric current, and guess what- ORGANIC PROTEINS/AMINO ACIDS FORMED, THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF DNA!
This proved that life could arise from non-life.

Resolved Question: Have Mormon prophets changed their beliefs yet about evolution?
1 (President of the Church Joseph Smith):
"Of course, I think those people who hold to the view that man has come up through all these ages from the scum of the sea through billions of years do not believe in Adam. Honestly I do not know how they can, and I am going to show you that they do not. There are some who attempt to do it but they are inconsistent - absolutely inconsistent, because that doctrine is so incompatible, so utterly out of harmony, with the revelations of the Lord that a man just cannot believe in both.
" I say most emphatically, you cannot believe in this theory [of evolution] of the origin of man, and at the same time accept the plan of salvation as set forth by the Lord our God. You must choose the one and reject the other, for they are in direct conflict and there is a gulf separating them which is so great that it cannot be bridged, no matter how much one may try to do so.
" Then Adam, and by that I mean the first man, was not capable of sin. He could not transgress, and by doing so bring death into the world; for, according to this theory [of evolution], death had always been in the world. If, therefore, there was no fall, there was no need of an atonement, hence the coming into the world of the Son of God as the Savior of the world is a contradiction, a thing impossible. Are you prepared to believe such a thing as that?" (Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, 1:141-42)."
#2 (President of the Church Ezra Benson):
"Our families may be corrupted by worldly trends and teachings unless we know how to use the book (Book of Mormon) to expose and combat the falsehoods in socialism, organic evolution, rationalism, humanism, etc." (President Ezra Taft Benson, May 1975 Ensign p. 65)

Resolved Question: Why does the fact that Green House Gases are a very low percentage of the atmosphere matter to people?
.and lead them to reason that something with a low ppm makes it irrelevant or safe?
I keep seeing posts claiming that GHG gases such as CO2 can be ignored because they are present in such low percentage amounts. Yet, people don't seem to have this attitude when their food or water is involved. (For example, I see people alarmed when there is a tiny amount of hormones or hormone-emulating chemicals in their municipal water supply -- even though everyone has hormones in their body. Yes, they are rightly concerned that even low levels of organic compounds are to be found in the wrong place at bioactive levels.)
So why in the case of Green House Gases do some assume that low percentages constitute some kind of argument that they are innocuous and can be ignored?
============================
Yes, CO2 is definitely a Green House Gas. Test it in the lab if you find it difficult to grasp.
And if you believe that warming from the green house warming principle (wherein heat is retained in a trapped environment as solar energy enters but less of it escapes) is not potentially harmful, try leaving a puppy in a parked car in the summer with the windows rolled up. Of course you would never do that -- because you don't actually believe there is no potential negative impact.
Resolved Question: Skeptics are you open to belief in God or Intelligent design?
The Evidence of Fine-tuning by Robert Collins
Suppose we went on a mission to Mars, and found a domed structure in which everything was set up just right for life to exist. The temperature, for example, was set around 70o F and the humidity was at 50%; moreover, there was an oxygen recycling system, an energy gathering system, and a whole system for the production of food. Put simply, the domed structure appeared to be a fully functioning biosphere. What conclusion would we draw from finding this structure? Would we draw the conclusion that it just happened to form by chance? Certainly not. Instead, we would unanimously conclude that it was designed by some intelligent being. Why would we draw this conclusion? Because an intelligent designer appears to be the only plausible explanation for the existence of the structure. That is, the only alternative explanation we can think of--that the structure was formed by some natural process--seems extremely unlikely. Of course, it is possible that, for example, through some volcanic eruption various metals and other compounds could have formed, and then separated out in just the right way to produce the "biosphere," but such a scenario strikes us as extraordinarily unlikely, thus making this alternative explanation unbelievable.
The universe is analogous to such a "biosphere," according to recent findings in physics. Almost everything about the basic structure of the universe--for example, the fundamental laws and parameters of physics and the initial distribution of matter and energy--is balanced on a razor's edge for life to occur. As the eminent Princeton physicist Freeman Dyson notes, "There are many . . . lucky accidents in physics. Without such accidents, water could not exist as liquid, chains of carbon atoms could not form complex organic molecules, and hydrogen atoms could not form breakable bridges between molecules" (p. 251)--in short, life as we know it would be impossible.
Scientists call this extraordinary balancing of the parameters of physics and the initial conditions of the universe the "fine-tuning of the cosmos." It has been extensively discussed by philosophers, theologians, and scientists, especially since the early 1970s, with hundreds of articles and dozens of books written on the topic. Today, it is widely regarded as offering by far the most persuasive current argument for the existence of God. For example, theoretical physicist and popular science writer Paul Davies--whose early writings were not particularly sympathetic to theism--claims that with regard to basic structure of the universe, "the impression of design is overwhelming" (Davies, 1988, p. 203). Similarly, in response to the life-permitting fine-tuning of the nuclear resonances responsible for the oxygen and carbon synthesis in stars, the famous astrophysicist Sir Fred Hoyle declares that
I do not believe that any scientists who examined the evidence would fail to draw the inference that the laws of nuclear physics have been deliberately designed with regard to the consequences they produce inside stars. If this is so, then my apparently random quirks have become part of a deep-laid scheme. If not then we are back again at a monstrous sequence of accidents. [Fred Hoyle, in Religion and the Scientists, 1959; quoted in Barrow and Tipler, p. 22]
A few examples from the literature of this fine-tuning are listed below:
1. If the initial explosion of the big bang had differed in strength by as little as 1 part in 1060, the universe would have either quickly collapsed back on itself, or expanded too rapidly for stars to form. In either case, life would be impossible. [See Davies, 1982, pp. 90-91. (As John Jefferson Davis points out (p. 140), an accuracy of one part in 1060 can be compared to firing a bullet at a one-inch target on the other side of the observable universe, twenty billion light years away, and hitting the target.)
2. Calculations indicate that if the strong nuclear force, the force that binds protons and neutrons together in an atom, had been stronger or weaker by as little as 5%, life would be impossible. (Leslie, 1989, pp. 4, 35; Barrow and Tipler, p. 322.)
3. Calculations by Brandon Carter show that if gravity had been stronger or weaker by 1 part in 1040, then life-sustaining stars like the sun could not exist. This would most likely make life impossible. (Davies, 1984, p. 242.)
4. If the neutron were not about 1.001 times the mass of the proton, all protons would have decayed into neutrons or all neutrons would have decayed into protons, and thus life would not be possible. (Leslie, 1989, pp. 39-40 )
5. If the electromagnetic force were slightly stronger or weaker, life would be impossible, for a variety of different reasons. (Leslie, 1988, p. 299.)
Imaginatively, one could think of each instance of fine-tuning as a radio dial: unless all the dials are set exactly right, life would be impossible. Or, one could think of t

Resolved Question: Why can't some distinguish between abiogenesis and natural selection?
But then again I can't really be too mad , it is not like they were taught this in school is some parts of the country --namely where I am from--the scientific disgrace that is Texas.
I just want to say this: they are not the same. We observe Natural Selection all the time. Natural Selection is the process in nature by which, according to Darwin's theory of evolution, only the organisms best adapted to their environment tend to survive and transmit their genetic characteristics in increasing numbers to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated (Survival of the fittest). Antibiotic resistant bacteria is a lovely example. However, abiogenesis is the a hypothetical organic phenomenon by which living organisms are created from nonliving matter.
So all the evolution deniers out there, it would really help to have a basic understanding what you are denying before you decide its false. I admittedly do not understand abiogenesis. It blows my mind. I am continuing my education to work to understand the theory. But, it is still hard for me to wrap my brain around it. However, natural selection makes perfect sense.
The only reason I make this point is because it is possible (while not my personal belief--I am an atheist) to believe in a creator, and still accept the fact of natural selection, and not try to fight it tooth and nail. IMHO, Natural Selection and creationism are not mutually exclusive.

Resolved Question: Spiritually speaking, what is your conception of science?
"More interestingly than that, if life spontaneously generated from inorganic material wouldn't it be easier for it to generate spontaneously from organic material? We should see new forms of life -wholly unrelated to anything alive now- generate from decaying material on a daily basis."
Now this made me think. Like, how can someone compare organic material that is being devoured by existing organism in a matter of hours to a few years compare to anorganic matter of a certain composition being under certain conditions for a couple billion of years?
We who claim the bible to be wrong mostly have read the bible. How many who claim science to be wrong have tried to comprehend science before judging it?

Any milk I use makes me get an acid stomach. Even organic lactose free milk (I'm lactose intolerant). It doesn't seem to matter whether I drink the milk by itself or mix it with something like rice, I still get burning after it's been in the stomach.
Is there anything I can have with the milk that will stop it from having that chemical reaction?
Resolved Question: If you think Evolution violates the Laws of Thermodynamics; how so?
the Laws of Thermodynamics are as follows:
The 1st law of thermodynamics, which mandates conservation of energy, and states in particular that the flow of heat is a form of energy transfer.
The 2nd law of thermodynamics, which states that the entropy of an isolated macroscopic system never decreases, or (equivalently) that perpetual motion machines are impossible.
The 3rd law of thermodynamics, which concerns the entropy of a perfect crystal at absolute zero temperature, and implies that it is impossible to cool a system all the way to exactly absolute zero.
Now considering Evolution is about changes in DNA via mutation and natural selection, it in no way violates the 1st law as all matter+energy spoken of in an organism is obtained from feeding.
Also since not only is Earth, let alone living organisms, *not* closed systems but the food we eat is used as fuel for the work cells do to reverse entropy and create new cells/organic matter so since all DNA comes from the organism's biomatter again no violation of the 2nd law
And since Evolution has nothing to do with absolute zero I do not see any violation of this law either
Yet this argument is still spread by some and I am wondering HOW evolution violates these laws as to this day I have not once heard a valid response on how the laws are violated by Evolution
(and btw evidently magically being poof'd out of thin air does not violate the laws evidently according to most of the people who claim Evolution violates thermodynamics)
JESUS IS LOVE> not an atheistepic fail for being that steretypically closed minded
Get A Grip> I am aware of the claims made that it can work for open systems as well but those are unproven claimsnot valid science laws or Theories (no peer-reviewed science that has achieved consensus of the science community).
Even if it were the caseit still doesn't change fact that Evolution does not violate it in any way.
You case is that basically if there is no God then no process could workwhich would mean no planet, no sun, no universe, etc. If thermodyanmics worked as you seem to be claiming you are saying the universe itself iss a violation of the 2nd law.
this is clearly incorrect so againyou have not advised how Evolution violates the law. How random mistakes made during replication of DNA somehow violates the increase of entropy
BTW> if people want a clear example of the 2nd law here it is.
A living human body
as it lives it creates waste, cells break down, etc.
this is increase in entropy
As long as we keep feeding to provide energy for the body it can use energy to do work needed to reverse these breakdowns/entropy
Once a person dies the body starts to break apart into gases and skin splits, decomposition starts once there is no more energy being injected into the human system.
Get A Grip> also for decades the proof has been clear the complex plant systems came like other life from simplier ones such as krill

Resolved Question: Marine Biology Questions?
I just spent well over an hour looking through my Marine bio book going nuts and I can't figure these two out at all. Thanks in advance to any answers.
1) Two species of sea urchins live practically side by side on sandy bottoms. The two species appear to have the same diet: drift seaweed and other bits of organic matter. They are able to live in the same environment without competing with each other. How might sea urchins be able to share their habitat and food resources?
2) It is not always easy to categorize a particular case of symbiosis. Suppose a certain species of snail is always found living on a certain coral. No one has found evidence that the snail harms the coral, so the relationship is classified as commensalism. How would you go about testing this hypothesis. What kinds of observations might lead to the conclusion that the snail is a parasite, or that it has a mutualistic relationship with the coral?
Resolved Question: I'm Having Trouble With Eating & 11 Months?
My son didn't eat solids until 9.5 months. He was offered, he'd take them all willingly but spit it out until that point. For one full month he decided he was going to eat all veggie babyfoods, but only 1 brand, Earths Best. I haven't been able to get him to eat fruit or anything else for that matter. By 10.5 months he decided to drop babyfood once again. He's been on bottle only every 2-3 hours because he's hungry all the time.
If I give him adult food, he will suck on it for an hour before I decide to take it out of his mouth and throw it away. Once in a while he will swallow noodles BUT every morning he eats my cereal, milk and cereal, off the spoon just fine.
My question is snacks. I know I have to work on the babyfood but how do I do snacks? If he eats every 2-3 hours, a full bottle, when do I squeeze in snacks? I have these organic Veggie baby chips for him that he seems to take a couple each time they are offered but since he isn't eating normally for his age, I'm not sure when to give them to him. Just between the bottles and still feed him the formula??
Thanks!
All of these answers are great but yesterday he went from 9:30AM to 3:45PM without eating or drinking anything. I didn't give him the bottle and I tried offering him foods but he wouldn't take. He was just crabby. I finally gave in in the afternoon. I don't eat at home. My fridge consists of Ketchup/Musturd and Milk. If I'm hungry at home I eat cereal or I will buy bread and put the Ket/Mus on it. I keep asking people what they are eating for dinner and I have tried to buy that stuff and cook it for my son but he isn't wanting it. If I give him fingerfood he smashes it and throws it on the floor.
Any suggestions? Should I keep tryin to cook what other people are eating and keep offering? Even if he isn't letting it go to his stomach?
I'm not sure why you all think this food is bad for him.. I'm talking about these veggie chips

Mine are exactly the same except the box says Made With Whole Grain. This is a baby treat. I mentioned it was for babies
If he is drinking 6 ounces, a full bottle, every 3 hours and is at 20 pounds, 11 months old, should I lower his ounce to 5 and let him cry for a few days until he takes the rest of the solid food offered?

Resolved Question: Is there any way to build a machine that can do this?
I need to build a machine that can put the same pressure on organic materials that coal would experience, and heat to a temperature of 550 degrees Fahrenheit. Budget doesn't matter. Send me a message with questions.
I just need a machine that:
1. Emits the same pressure that coal would experience underground
and
2. Heat to a temperature up to 600F
I can build it, or buy it. Doesn't matter.
Resolved Question: Overbearing grandmother-driving me and the family crazy HELP!!!!?
OK- here is whats going on. My mother is in the hospital but thankfully she is recovering. I'm in the military and have come home on leave. There are 3 little kids ages 8,11, and 13. While my mother has been in the hospital, the 13 yo has been taking care of everything, from the groceries, to ensuring that the 8 year old leaves for school on time. The father has to leave for work at 5AM.
Anyways, my grandmother came to see her daughter, however, my mother didn't want her to come because she knew that my grandmother is extremely overbearing and hardheaded.
Just to give you some insight as to what is going on, she has;
call my dad's side of the family and told them he drinks.-
My opinion- what does it matter? It is his house, he takes care of his kids, pays the bills etc. What he does in his home is his buisness, If she doesn't like it, leave.
The family is on a strict budget, she knows this, yet she went to the store and purchase $150 worth of organic food that no one will eat except for her. The 13 yo questioned her about this decision, and grandma's reply was don't worry granny knows what she's doing. The 13yo told her that is was not a wise decision and she purchased the goods anyways.
If she asks you to do something, and you don't do it immediately, she gets upset and takes it as a sign of deep disrespect. For example, she asked me to take out the trash, but I was going through bills atm, and told her that I would take it out later after I was finished. Suddenly my dad pulled me away to talk to me about her. She comes out and disrupts our conversation to ask me why I haven't taken out the trash yet, I told her that I would take it out later, but I'm in the middle of a conversation right now. She then went on this rant about me disrespecting her, because I didn't do exactly what she said when she said it.
PLEASE!!! give me advice.
I have no problem telling her off- but she is my grandma and I respect and love her, but she has crossed too many lines, and it is disrupting the family, as well as stressing out the kids.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Terontis

Voting Question: Art/Textiles AS Level exam ideas!? Doesn't matter if you're not creative just have a thinkkkk :)?
The options for Art & Design are:
1 Windows and Doorways - Alice in Wonderland, maybe items that trigger doorways to open in people's minds for example seeing an item related to dead relative or friend might trigger you to think about them.
2 Technology - no ideas really for this one except for how technology has taken over our lives, maybe doing a city of technology or transformers made form recent technology e.g. iphones, ps3s, laptops etc..
3 Festivals and Carnivals - Mardi Gras/Venetian theme? Or Leeds and Glastonbury, I could paint a pair of wellies, umbrella, a tent!?
4 Altering the Scale - there has to be a specific reason for altering the scale of the things I choose, like making celebrities larger than others in photos because of their social status, etc..
5 Significant Events - has to be a significant event, kind of stupid seeing as basically everyone that does this will do Haiti and this can lower everyone's marks, stupid stupid system! I was thinking maybe Michael Jackson's death?
The options for Textiles & Fashion are:
1 Surfaces - snoooooooooooooooooze but go for it!
2 Rangoli Patterns - has to finish with a textiles piece for the home so to be honest it's not really what I want to do as I want to take Fashion at uni but maybe I can be convinced!
3 Organic Forms - I kind of hate this but feel free to mention any ideas..
4 Embellishment - this is the one I'm mainly focused on so far, I was thinking about looking at vegas show girl costumes, burlesque costumes, Moulin Rouge style outfits and Rio carnival costumes..the brief also says they traditionally convey position and status.
5 African Influences - I have to produce a fashion accessory for this, could be alright although I did a lot of work based on African Culture for GCSE.
Any ideas would be really great! Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers
i mean i need actual ideas other than the ones i've already come up with, not just "yeah do doorways and embellishment" that's just you trying to get easy points.
Resolved Question: Animals eat plants for carbs?
How come every site states, such as the site below has in the quoted text, that animals/humans eat plants for carbohydrates for energy, BUT they never mention animals/humans eating the plant for the other essential nutrients--protein and fat?
And also, are plants mainly composed structurally of carbohydrates? And are they composed of this so that we eat them for this energy source?
"Plants and animals work together: Decaying animals and feces provide the organic matter in the soil that plants need, and plants provide carbohydrates and oxygen that animals need."
Resolved Question: Any cure for eczema out there?
I've been suffering from sever eczema for 10 years now; went to the doc, applied all sorts of creams prescribed and non-prescribed ones as cortisone's, probetasol propionant ointment, aquafor, dermatitis cream, aloe vera, etc, but nothing helped at all. It is obvious that the cause of this is internal because of all the itching and water coming from the rash and even if a cream did help, once I stop using it, eczema comes back. I did my research and found some herbs that they said "may help." Drank them, but no major improvement. One summer it did improve and totally went away when I drank dandelion root, but then it came back even thou I never stopped drinking it. Did dandelion stop working for me? I also tried a diet for 9 mon. and it kinda helped me. All I could eat was organic, starch free, gluten free, dairy free and many more exclusions. This diet was suggested by a doc. from NY for me and also a whole bunch of supplements with the diet. I drank all of his supplements and 6 more months of diet (total 9 mon). It never went away completely, I still had it on my hands, legs, and sometimes face. So I got tired of dieting and gradually went back to eating all the foods. Then it eventually got worse and worse. Then at times it would get better and then much worse then the previous "worse." I don't know what to do anymore. I tried "FirstCleanse" and it made my rash worse then ever. Perhaps it's possible that it cleans from inside out, but I don't know for sure. I know that people have eczema's from many different things. Eczema may look same two people that have it, but be from different reasons. May be from too much mercury in blood, high toxicity, bad digestion, colon disease.you name it. I feel trapped with this illness like someone tied chains over me 10 years ago and I still can't get out. I can't sleep because of terrible itchiness, I can't wear short sleeves cuz don't wanna scare people with my red patched arms. And doctors tell me that eczema in not curable, it's preventable. I really don't believe in this. I believe that one day I can be free form it.
So does anyone know some very effective treatments for eczema?
Or maybe a great doctor that can say "yes it's curable" and find what is the matter with me. I would prefer an experienced doc who studied natural medicine and who has cured eczema before. I don't have medical insurance so I need someone I can rely on for the last time. Please!

With major land holdings in every area in Sri Lanka and ethnic background that comprises EVERY ethnic identity in Sri Lanka dating back to the original Emperor and his daughter the Empress of Sri Lanka what we knew thousands of years ago still stands true of semi-federal instead of semi-feudal systems of administration, the promotion of cultural diversity, sovreignity of state, integration based on common lands and redistricting based on administrative facilty and the potential for inclusiveness. The enduring right to have our lands be supportive of our peoples and an acceptance of the fact that we are all much more inter-related than the politico-ethnic identity badges that have been foisted on us by both internal and external influences that promote a divide and conquer thematic.
Thank you India for realizing the disbenefit of GM foods and protesting it - just as your outgoing administration has been foisting this anti-prosperity and anti-democratic measure in India, Indian Influelce has also been coercively foisting the same matter in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka just says no as we have realized the benefit of organic farming anti-corporate and pro-cooperative efforts of agro-business and retaining the right to grow product of choosing instead of agreeing to "perpetuity" clauses attached to GM foods.

Resolved Question: College degree in neuroscience / biology?
Since you are dependent upon a degree if you want to endeavor the work of a scientist, I am confident that a degree within the boundaries of biology and neuroscience will be the right choice for me. I'm uncertain what to study, since Universities tend to build their own unique curriculum; molecular biology with a master in neuroscience, or just neuroscience? Recommendations appreciated. The surroundings of the student life are just as important as the actual degree, I want to enjoy life while being a student, not drink it away. And as I was lucky to win a price leaving me with enough money for a master degree without having to loan money: I have opportunity to choose to some extend. Student atmosphere should preferably contain enthusiasm, the standard of living within city bounds should be acceptable, I would embrace a smaller city with active programs benefiting agricultural and environmental respect (I would even like to have a part time job on a farm, practicing free-range and organic produce). As I am from Norway, Iv been without the sun for as long as I can cope. It's constantly cloudy, and we have buckets full of rain, to top it all with a nightmarish winter where the sun is above the horizon for a couple of hours (seldom seen because of the clouds). So I would love to study anywhere the sun can shine on my face, it needn't be tropical temperatures, and the winter could bring snow. As long as I can smile at the sun a couple of days pr week. Links, further coaching tips, anything of use to my application will be greatly appreciated. I am confident that brain-matter and cells is the subject I should study. All hail.
Resolved Question: Is this diet a sensible one?
I found this diet plan for a quick way to slim down.
Is it legit? Would it work? I would like to get into pilates/yoga and change my diet, so let me know what you think of this diet I found on a site:
"Step 1
Detox is the way to go. Cleanse the colon and help your liver. Your liver is your filter, you have to take care of this thing or your body will get stuck with fattening toxins
Step 2
To take care of your liver, I am going to list the foods you will only eat for one week. Mix them up, find recipes and get creative. But remember to stick to just these foods and remember to portion correctly
- cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, broccoli
- parsley, kale, watercress, chard, cliantro, collards
- orange or lemon, lime juice (no grapefruit!)
- garlic, onions, eggs
- artichoke, asparagus, beets, celery, whey
- 1 time a day eat a serving (the size of the palm of your hand)of protein
- olive oil or flaxseed oil
Step 3
For your Colon eat and use the following:
- carrot, apple, pear, berries
- powdered psyllium husks, milled or ground flaxseeds
Step 4
Drink Filtered water cut with Organic Cranberry juice
Only drink that through out the day. And drink as much of it as you can to flush out the toxins (the more you drink the more you help get rid of cellulite)
Step 5
NO SUGAR, NO WHITES, NO ALCOHOL, NO CAFFEINE
STICK TO ORGANIC AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
Step 6
Stick to this diet and I promise the inches will start to melt off. Weight will follow. Your clothes will start to get big on you and you are going to feel AWESOME.
You should do the cleansing diet once every month. I personally just try to eat these foods no matter what and all I drink is water and organic cranberry"
I am not fat or overweight. I am wanting to get likereally slim though, so would this be a good diet for that? Or is it junk?
Voting Question: My MIL is whining about our unborn child's gender?
We found out earlier this week that we are having a little girl!!! I am so excited, as we already have a 2 year old little boy, so he will have a sister!!! MIL, however, has done nothing but whine and pretty much ignore me since we found out we were having a girl. When DH called her to tell her the day we found out, she whined "But I don't know what to do w/ a girl"-weren't you one at one point, as well as you have several nieces who up until pretty recently were of the little girl age demographic? When she and FIL came to our house to see the ultrasound pictures, she ignored me(didn't talk to me, etc.), then suggested she and my husband take a trip to the grocery store, just the 2 of them, leaving FIL, myself and DH's and my son here. She didn't even say bye to me, just walked out the door.
When DH came back, his mother was not w/ him. She told DH to tell FIL to come down to their apt. when he got hungry.
Also, every time she sees me, she either A) complains my belly is crooked(I think she considers this an insult-every time she says this, it's said in her "point-and-laugh" voice), or B) completely ignores me and refuses to talk to me or acknowledge me.
She also has demanded that my husband do our grocery shopping w/ her(there is a snowstorm headed our way, and I told DH we needed to go shopping for some supplies; DH mentions us going shopping off handedly to MIL, who instantly demands we go shopping w/ her; I HATE shopping w/ her, b/c all she does the entire time is nitpick everything-food, cup, you name it- that I put in the cart for my son or myself- the food isn't nutritious enough, the juice is too sugary, the cups have something wrong w/ them, etc.-& btw, I water his juice down, and she knows this, as well as all the snacks I get for him are age appropriate and most of them are organic, and/or low on the junk food o meter on purpose, & I eat pretty healthy regardless; and no this is not a new thing either).
I don't get her whining, or her treatment of me for that matter. When BIL & SIL(the other DIL) found out they were having a boy, and were happy about it, MIL & FIL took everyone out to dinner to celebrate. They haven't even so much as suggested it this go around, or w/ my son.
Any thoughts? Both my husband and I have tried talking to her about this(among other things), as well as set proper boundaries(as I feel she is really overstepping her bounds in a lot of ways, not just in regard to this). Also, can someone please write an example of what an appropriate boundary would be for her? My husband is new to the setting boundaries thing, and needs an example of what is an appropriate boundary.
Resolved Question: Chemistry - Carbon Dating Question?
Anthropologists can estimate the age of a bone or other organic matter by its carbon-14 content. The carbon-14 in a living organism is constant until the organism dies, after which carbon-14 decays with first-order kinetics and a half-life of 5730 years. Suppose a bone from an ancient human contains 19.5% of the C-14 found in living organisms
How old is the bone
Resolved Question: Can my 7 month old be switched to stage 3 baby food?
My 7 month old is on stage 2 baby food and can eat a jar & a 1/2 in 1 feeding, she doesn't like baby rice cereal, she absolutely loves gerber crawler level/graduate type snacks..iegraduates lil crunchies (if I break it up in to smaller pieces)the gerber fruit puffs things, the gerber yogurt melts, Earth Best organic wheat teething biscuits on occasion, and she takes about 3-4 bottles a day of formula ranging from 6-8 ounces in a serving 8 ounces if she's hasn't much solids like baby snacks or baby food and then more like 5 bottles. Is it time for me to move her up to stage 3 baby food if she is doing this? She has 2 bottom teeth if that matters any. Thanks!
Resolved Question: The great organic debate?
So. I was wondering what other people think about the organic foods debate, so if you think they are the only foods are good or if some foods don't matter.
I for one only eat unprocessed foods. I only buy organic meat and eat wild game. In the summer I garden all my vegetables and herbs. But in the winter I buy everything from the store and only my greens and herbs organic. And I make all my own bread and granola bars and everything.
What's are everyone else's opinions on this matter? Are organic foods just a trend to some people? Just cause they are organic are they healthy? and anything else you want to throw in!
Resolved Question: why should nuclear waste be buried?
It is proposed that nuclear waste be buried because it:
1-needs to be stored away from people for a long period of time.
2-loses its radioactivity as it reacts with organic matter and minerals in the soil.
3-is hot.
4-will not burn so it cannot be incinerated.
which of these are true
