Open Question: What Kind of plant is this?

I recently picked this one up at a local Lowes Home Improvement store. This type of plant was not labeled and it was kept with the rest of the INdoor plants. Im wondering what it is so I can look up care instructions. When I bought it, it had 2 huge flowers. Then those died of in a couple of days and out came 4 medium flowers. They looked good for days, now the flower leaves are browning. Looks almost like they are rusting. The foliage is perfect though. Plant was transfered into a 6" plastic pot kept indoors. In Miracle Gro organic choice POTTING MIX. I mixed in miracle gro perlite and organic pellet food and desert sand. What am I doing wrong? whoops! Here is the photobucket upload of the photo http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p193/mr2rare/plant.jpg

Open Question: did i eat pretty junky or ok today?

im a long distance runner also breakfast - huge bowl of life cereal (felt like it) with some coffee and about 2 tsp of sugar lunch - salad(tiny bits of turky, organic spinach, flax seed, half a can of carrots, and no fat italian dressing) with a box of orange juice and a pear snack - frozen strawberry yogurt with a banana dinner - a taco bell bean burrito ( don't like eating fast food but parents brought it home so i was stuck with it) and thats it so far, i feel like a unhealthy bum, and as much as i know i shouldn't worry about calories as a runner im a little on the self conscious side about how much i consume. Did i eat ok or pretty bad, i didn't really feel like being a complete health nut today like i've been all week. i drink about 10 - 15 cups of water a day too

Open Question: Whats a good name for an organization that helps local farmers advertise their products?

I am creating a hypothetical company that would produce labels that local farms could place on their produce, dairy and meet products to gain better recognition in grocery stores. The idea behind the company is to make buying locally grown foods the "cool' thing to buy. I want the company to have a really modern feel rather than the typical organic or nostalgic feel of most farming companies. I have been brainstorming for weeks and I am stuck and can't come up with a name. Some ideas I had were local roots, home grown, and starting point but none of these are as exciting as I want! Any name suggestions would really be appreciated! p.s. I am thinking of using planted next door as a tag line so something that works with that would be great

Open Question: Where do college kids live?

I need to transfer colleges & the drive from my house will be about 1.5 - 2 hours. So I was wondering what / where other college kids live besides dorms or apartments or extended stay hotels? Reason is I rarely sleep (about 4 hours every 48 hours). --So I'm ALWAYS awake. & I'm ALWAYS making noise whether it be listening to music/watching a movie or playing/making music with a guitar. So a dorm really wouldn't be for me. & I will not eat school food.. I eat fresh & organic fruits & vegetables. Any ideas?? Thanks I'm not living in my car as where will i take showers or do homework or put my clothes or anything?? & As for having a "schedule" once I graduate I'm pretty sure I'll be able to buy a house with a PhD so I can play my music as loud as I'd like

Open Question: I'm having a lot of trouble losing weight and I don't know why?

So I'll start off with I'm a 16 year old girl. I used to weigh about 115 pounds always.. then over these past 2 years I've gained some weight and now I'm 130 pounds. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong though? I don't eat fast food, I don't eat meat besides fish, I don't drink soda (in fact, I only drink water and lots of it), I try to eat as organic as possible, and I only eat 3 meals a day. Which are all healthy; I eat a lot of fruit. I also work out at the gym 3-4 days a week. And for some reason.. I lose absolutely no weight. And I don't understand why? Someone help please.

Resolved Question: How would I answer these questions on a job application?

I am applying for a job at a natural/food/organic store. Why do you want to work here? The next Question: What does team work mean to you?

Open Question: Higher Prices VS. Better Selection at Health Food Stores?

Stores like Trader Joe's carry plenty of natural and organic food, but most of it is boxed / pantry type foods. Yet the prices are affordable compared to most other health food stores. Stores like Market of Choice and New Season's are much more expensive but have a larger selection to choose from. Someone could do ALL of their shopping here. Including diapers, medicine, meat, and produce. Would you rather pay 10 or 15% more per-dollar to have a larger selection? Do you buy a mixture of organic and traditional (normal) groceries? Would you be more apt to buy organic if normal grocery stores offered it? Would you shop at a grocery store that offered both a large selection of Organic and a large selection of affordable normal groceries?

Open Question: is having Amy's Kitchen Organics (frozen food) 2x a day bad.. (its gluten and vegan)?

the dishes i pick are always organic, gluten free, and vegan friendly but it IS frozen food. i normally have 1 or 2 of these a day.. and they come out to be about 300-400 calories. they are yummy but i dont know if having 1-2 a day is unhealthy.. i also have a lot of soy milk & salad & some fruit in the day too. haha well college students dont have time to eat extravagantly :( but this is the best i can do!

Open Question: I live in northern VA and I'm so done with it. Where should I go, please give ideas based on criteria below.?

I will pick best answer based on a tally of points. You can find what I award points for as you read. Preferably out west. *5 points for this* I like SUN *10 points*, warm weather *5 points* also but can deal with cold as long as its sunny. LOTS AND LOTS of OUTDOOR activites. Nature, organic farming (10 points for being an organic-minded city/town), fishing (5 points for great fishing), rivers, lakes (5 points for rivers or lakes within 20 miles). Within 4-6 hours drive of a beach is a plus(5 points). I'm unconcerned with job/salaries because of the nature of my work. What I do look for is low crime/drugs *20 points*, good schools *10 points* (I have 2 young kids). The states I like are California, Oregon, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico in that order (5 points for suggestions made in those states). Would consider Montana/Wyoming but I don't know much about them and they are kind of out of the way. If there's any great places out east or central feel free to throw those in. I like fairly rural within 100 miles of a larger city. If there are any colleges with a good conservatory/music program that is a bonus *15 points!* Also every whole foods market or similar within 10 miles is 5 points. *5 points* for having a strong historical/archaeological aspect (ie:williamsburg, va) regardless of where you pick, even if its not out west and you didn't get too many points before I will award 25 points for the most unique appealing place that I wouldn't otherwise find out about. For example here in Virginia, Western Loudoun County has some beautiful small historic towns, with great vineyards, hiking areas, old town shopping, fine dining, and horse country aspects. If you can find something like that, additional *25 points*.

Open Question: I want to help stop animal cruelty, but becoming vegan isn't that simple?

I was raised by a family who's farmed and ranched for generations. As such, our meat and dairy products came from animals who were loved and had names, or were raised lovingly by neighbors. I had no idea that animals were abused, because of my idyllic childhood. I don't fall into a cookie-cutter mold of what a vegetarian should be. I eat some meat, and to be honest, I believe that eating meat isn't immoral. To abuse the animals or deprive them of a quality life is absolutely wrong. So is killing an animal for its fur, or for anything unnecessary. But so long as you treat the animal kindly, and respect its life (and its death, when it's humanely butchered to put food on the table), I think that omnivorism is morally "ok." Now a discerning adult in a bigger city, I'm absolutely horrified by the way that animals are treated for their meat, fur, etc. As such, I purchase everything from local farmers who are known to care for their animals. When I can't buy from a local farmer, I no longer purchase any meat or animal by-products unless they are organic, vegetarian fed, and free-range. This is hard work, but goes a long way in ensuring I do my part to stop cruelty to animals. I feel like this is a big step for me to take in the right direction. I could go vegan, but to be honest, my fiance is a meat-eater, and has said that he would be "very, very angry" if I went vegan because he wants us to enjoy cooking together. I agree - I don't want to give up something we enjoy to become vegan. But am I doing enough? Please, don't get pissed at me and tell me I'm a bad person for eating meat. I'm making responsible choices & doing the best I can! Thanks for positive, helpful pointers and advice :) Any suggestions on how to You're right, and I apologize. I don't call myself a vegetarian and I misspoke in this post. Okay, so my excuses aren't good enough. I disagree but I'm here for more information, not to fight about whether or not I'm good enough. What I WOULD like to know, is what can I do to be more conscious? If there are vegan substitutes, what are they? If I tried to find a non-meat meal for my fiance and I to make, I would default to veggies and tofu. I have no grasp of the vegan world beyond that. Perhaps if I were better equipped to make tasty substitutes, I could talk us both into it ;)

Open Question: How do you eat green and support local farms from a practical, day to day standpoint?

I recently watched the documentary "Food Inc" and was really disturbed by what I saw. I want to eat seasonally and buy food from local farms here in New Jersey, but it all seems so complicated. Either to have to buy a big amount (certainly of meats) or wait for the Farmer's Market once or twice a week. Is there an easier way somewhere online to buy local, organic cruelty free food? I live in Hoboken. Joanne, thanks for the honest answer.

Open Question: Teenagers with spot-free skin?

I need your help. Because of my skin, I have really low self-esteemI'm a 16 year old girl and ever since being 13 years old I've gotten moderate acne. I never have a day where I'm like 'oh no, a pimple' because I have more than a few pimples all of the time. I'm taking perscription pills and I'm taking proper care of my skin - washing face morning and night, oil-free make-up, oil-free moisturiser, etc. I've figured it's time to change my diet. I eat reasonably well, but I could be eating much better. There's hardly any fruit in my diet, only mainly apples. I eat lots of tuna and chicken, and I'm now eating only wholemeal pasta, and multigrain bread. I do, however, eat processed foods for school because they are quick and easy, i.e. packets of chips, biscuits, mac&cheese for lunch, etc. I feel I should eat more organics and fruits, but I don't know where to start, because I prefer quick and simply and affordable food. Please describe to me your diet and any clear-skin tips you might have. Thank you for your time!

Resolved Question: Do you buy Organic groceries or Traditional groceries?

Please answer the following and your at least guaranteed a thumbs up. Would you consider yourself frugal with your grocery spending? Do you buy organic or healthy food or whatever is the cheapest? If you can't afford organic food do you spend extra on healthy organic foods for your kids? Would you consider yourself blue collar or white collar? Do you wish natural food stores carried more traditional grocery items? Do you wish traditional grocery stores carried more organic, healthy, or natural products? What do you like about grocery shopping? What do you hate about grocery shopping? How much do you spend a month on natural, organic, or health groceries? How much do you spend a month on traditional groceries? Do you own a car? Do you support local business or buy from who ever has the cheapest prices? Would you say your life is very fasted passed and busy?

Resolved Question: Does the company JBNI Biodrux actually exist?

I mean, are they really a "pharmaceutical" company who makes something, or are they just a web presence with 3 guys in an office building re-selling Chinese-made sugar pills with fancy labels and bogus claims? I've tried to find a company profile on the web - nada. I've tried to find an estimate of the size of the company - only one website, and it said "1-4 employees". I looked up their address - a suite in a mid-sized suburban office building shared with 6 other companies and an organic food luncheonette. I tried to find any employees of JBNI on LinkedIn or Spoke - nothing. Yet their products are hyped all over the web, and two gentlemen named Walli and Case are quoted pitching the products. If they're a real company, there must be some sort of production facility and some research center and some physicians on the payroll. Where are they? I know some small, private companies that explicitly try to have no profile on the web, and I can find more info on them than I can find on JBNI. Curious Hey izzy - I see you got bit by the same curiosity bug. Thanks for looking and replying. The IND they filed isn't anything other than notice that they're going to investigate a drug. It implies no credibility to the drug or to the company, but it gives the company a chance to use the letters "FDA" in their press materials. People can criticize the FDA and conventional medicine all they want, but when I see drugs on the shelves that have passed full FDA approval, at least I can be reasonably certain that the company and its entire product line are not a complete fabrication. Sadly, there are posters in this section that actually recommend JBNI Biodrux products. If the company is a sham, what can that mean about its products?

Resolved Question: Is there something "wrong" with how I live my life?

I'm single, 37 years old, widowed, without children. I am a christian, and I have been celibate since my husband died in 2005. I have 3 jobs, and I live alone. I don't drink, smoke, or do illegal drugs. Several years ago I became a Vegan for health reasons. I exercise every day, don't eat junk or fast food, only organic, non-processed foods/beverages, drink triple filtered water. I don't watch a lot of television, I play the piano, sing in my church choir, enjoy reading books, and I am taking dance classes (tap and california swing). I love different genre's of music (no rap). Oh I don't have any animals or plants, because I'm to busy. No I'm not homely, I'm average looking. This is just a little bit about me. Yet every day at my jobs, people ask me why I don't go to bars, get drunk, or have sex with random strangers. I just don't feel that those kinds of things are right for my life anymore. Those days are over for me. When I'm at my jobs I always keep my personal life and my opinions to myself. There have been many people that have "assumed" that I am a homosexual because, I don't have a boyfriend or have sex with men. I am tired of people "assuming" that they know, everything about my life. For the most part I have a very quiet life, and that is the way that I like it. So is there anything "wrong" with my lifestyle?

Open Question: Rabbit question, please help now!?

Hi, I recently bought a New Zealand White doe (along with a buck). They are about ten weeks old and are a joy! The buck is quite friendly and is turning out to be somewhat of a house rabbit. The doe, on the other hand is shy, she doe-sn't ;) like to move around, and she won't eat much of her pellets or hay. I am new to NZW, so im not quite sure, but her face looks a lil' puffed I think she might be ill or just shy? She is only active when I am gone, or the buck is with her. The breeder from where I bought her seemed knoledgeable, he has successfully bred NZW for 20+ years, but could have improved the size of the cages. Their diet (at the breeders) was purina (yuck! I changed them off that!) pellets, NO hay, grass, melons, roots, Ti leaves (anyone know if these are good for rabbits? They LOVE them, and seem to do better on them), and other veggies. I give them hay, pellets, papaya, dandelion, plantain (herb), grass, etc, all homegrown and organic (x-ept pellets). I do not have the money to see a vet, I spent all my money on the rabbits (my money that doesn't go to food, water etc)! Did I change food to quickly? Am I feeding something that would make them ill? Is ti leaves good for rabbits? The only thing they seem to like is dandelion, grass, ti, but they only eat a little bit of hay and pellets. The buck is quite healthy and energetic. I live in Hawaii, that is where I get Ti/papaya/etc. Any help would be much appreciated! And please, no one telling me money doesn't matter and I have to see a vet anyway! I need food for my dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, fish and other critters!! Thanks evrybody, I give them pellets. They are eating more hay now, and the female was happy and ate a bit more (I mixed hay with fresh grass and she ate almost all of it). Emily, its not that I cannot afford animals, but in case of emergency, the vets in my area charge too much. I have many animals, and all of them are very healthy, except for the doe rabbit. I can afford the animals, their food (my cats/dogs are on a raw homemade diet, and I try to buy the best for my animals). I know that most papaya is to sweet, I produce seedless papaya that is much much less sugary than grocery store papaya (I "breed" the papaya for the animals :¬). And I know that they should not eat only these things, but its the only thing they are eating a reasonable amount of. Question: Since the only way the doe will eat the hay is if I mix it with fresh grass, should I just keep doing this? Or do I "wean" her off until she is eating mostly hay? Thanks! Edit: Seems she is doing OK. The buck had been roaming the house all day (the only reason the doe wasn't in was because she was scared, and didn't like the house), and I decided to let the doe come in for awhile with the buck, she immediately started hopping around and having fun. When I placed them back in the cage, the doe (which she had never done before) started playing in the cage and sniffing me. It seems she just needed some confidence! They are also eating a little more hay. It seems that the face looked "puffy", but I looked at more pictures of NZW does, and they have a more rounded face, guess I'm just worrying too much!! Thanks for the help =¬)

Resolved Question: Looking for a tried and true recipe Fresh salmon casserole, gluten free?

We are going to a church potluck with approx 15 - 20 guests. The hostess is serving pork. I am supplying the pescatarian main course (no meat or poultry). I am looking for a recipe that you have tried and liked that has fresh salmon, no gluten, and possibly rice. It can have a vegetable. I would think it should serve about 10 people. This crowd is used to organic, health food cooking so it can be a little "out there" but doesn't have to be. The supper is this Friday night, Feb. 20.

Open Question: Organic veggies in SE Michigan? (Detroit Area)?

Where can I find a large assortment of organic, and hopefully local veggies for sale near Southfield Michigan? (metro Detroit). I just moved here and can't find an organic market that is not Whole Foods.

Open Question: How bad is my family's diet..?

Our food choices aren't varied at all. This is what we eat MOST of the time. We only eat breakfast on Sunday (grits, sausage, eggs). For dinner we have rice almost every night (white, yellow), some kind of baked meat (dark chicken, pork chops, or ground beef patties), and CANNED vegetables (usually corn, sweet peas, string beans). And once a week we'll eat spaghetti. Can anyone tell me how bad this diet is on a scale of 1-10 and maybe little ways to tweak it? We have VERY little money, so we can't really go organic. All advice is welcome.

Open Question: How do I stretch my dollar while maintaining an organic diet?

I eat all organic, minimally processed foods which can get EXPENSIVE. Some ideas and recipes would be great.

Open Question: For those living in Scottsdale Az, about Whole Foods Natural Market?

I just moved here from Montana and all of our natural food stores are extremly strict about the skin care products, I won't even get into that 'cause it sucks but, my question for you locals is, does your natural food market carry Dr. Hauschka products? If so, do they automatically "track" you after purchasing high priced items? I suppose I should get into details a bit in montana the nicer products were kept under lock and key, in one situation, I spent nearly two hours in the skin care section because they only had photos of their skin care items, and the employees would have to retrieve whatever I'd ask for, and then hover behind me while I read the box to make sure that's the product that would work for me needless to say, that process took WAY too long, all because I'd never used that product before, I had a budget I had to stay within, because she had to fetch everything and frankly, when someone is behind me "reccomending" other product, it's hard to make a decision. On another, equally as unpleasent visit to an alterntive grocery market, everything was kept behind glass. I ended up purchasing the rhythmic night conditioner and was actually CALLED, on my cell phone, by a member of management to confirm some information on my reciept because there was some product missing from the glass cabinet, and apparently I was the only one in montana to purchase from this cabinet? I don't know what there logic behind it was, the problem was, that they took my personal information to recive coupons and special offers, and used it to accuse me of stealing. I went to this store to "unload" (basically, bitch them out), and the suppliments lady said they found the missing product behind the customer service desk! Totally crappy experiences, always. Natural Food market employees are always so, stuck up towards me, with this, "holier than thou" attitude. They literally treat me like an idiot becase I'm new to all this alternative living Now that I've unloaded onto a bunch of innocent people, and sorry for that, but I'm hoping you all could tell me about the "Whole Foods Market" in Scottsdale before I drive two hours to get there! Otherwise I'm going to Fry's >=[ Is it pleasent? Does it smell like old fish? Is it insanely priced? Do they have Dr. Hauscka; what kind of selection;are their samples of the skin care products; is everything in a glass shelf; is there all natural make up(that I can actually TRY first?); do they give people shit about making returns(I dreaded returning things in MT, they'd always throw such a fit ove it); is the produce local/organic? well anyways, I think I've ranted enough, please give me some honest opinions! thanks!

Open Question: Is Vegetarian Cat Food Safe?

I am a vegetarian. I like to think of myself as level headed and open minded. But recently, while jogging, I thought that it might be a tad hypocritical to claim to not support the meat industry and to be truly vegetarian but still buy products that contain meat in them (for my cat). Its the same meat industry that is very brutal towards animals! But on the same level, I respect that cats are natural carnivores and need certain chemicals to live that a soley plant based diet cannot provide to them. I recently have read about "vegan" cat foods, but i don't want to risk my cats health. Does anyone know if these are safe for a cat to eat (ie provide proper nutrition)? If not, is there a brand I can buy that contain meat from cage free/open range/ organic farms?

Resolved Question: How do we get this informations to our guests?

We are having an informal wedding at a lake, and our reception is going to be a big family cookout over a formal catered affair. Most of our 30 guests know this already, but we still need to somehow get this information to the 5 or 6 who don't have a clue, and get the information to those who are expecting it what they need to bring. We have everything home wise already, so we don't want gifts. In lieu of toasters and towels and things like that, we just want guests to bring themselves, a contribution to the bar, and some sort of dish for the cookout. We need to divide things up, like some people bring burgers/veggie burgers (my family is mostly vegetarians, his are big meat eaters), then side dishes like potato salad and dips. Kind of a potluck type thing. Again, most of our guests know this too, that I am on a restrictive diet for medical reasons, and organic food would make things easier since I'm allergic to many chemical additives in pre packaged food (like MSG, aspartame, and a few others I can barely pronounce let alone spell) but there are 5 or 6 who don't. How can we politely convey our wishes of family, food and drinks over fancy gifts?

Open Question: What is the most effective way to lose the greatest possible amount of weight in the shortest period of time?

Don't say "you can only lose 2 lbs per week healthily". Honestly, I could care less about the "healthy way". I'm 50 lbs overweight, and would like to lose the weight by this summer. This is NOT an invitation for you to post personalized advertisements for specific fad diet companies, either- don't waist your time, I'm too poor to buy into your scam even if I wanted to. This is also NOT an invitation to rant about proper diet and exercise and all that bull. As I said, I am P O O R, I can not afford organic foods or expensive exercise equipment, if I could I'd hop right on it. Instead, I would like to know a completely affordable/free diet or plan that can help me lose the weight I need to by this summer that doesn't involve starving myself. NO ADVERTISEMENTS OR LINKS TO PROMOTIONAL WEBSITES- I will report you. Yes, we are in an age in which poor people can afford internet, it's actually quite necessary- if you haven't become aware, the internet is currently one of the largest, if not the largest, mediums for communication. Without it, as a 19-year-old student, I would be at a loss and separated from the general society to which I belong. As I've said, I am poor- not Amish. The internet is not a luxury, just as telephones are not a luxury- it is simply a mode of communication. Just because someone owns a phone or possesses the internet does not mean they are not poor- this is America, not India or Africa where each village of impoverished citizens only has one telephone and one television to huddle around. I'm poor in the American sense, I am in no way impoverished. Anyway, I rambled about that. I would run if the weather were nicer- there is a track right down the street from where I live, but it's been snowing/raining/cold and the tracks are covered, therefore that isn't a possibility And I don't particularly want to look like a fool running through town in the middle of winter- I don't live in the suburbs- as I said I am poor in the American sense, and I live in a small city- the kind in which somehow everyone knows someone who knows everyone even though there are about 60,000 people. High risk of being labeled "The Strange girl that jogs around town what was her name? Oh yeah, her." I don't need that. However, I do plan to go hiking on the next day that has tolerable weather- there is a park down the street from my house with a few trails that lead up a small mountain. I figure doing that at least twice a week- more if possible- should really help burn calories. It's a pretty hardcore 5-7 mile hike up and back down.

Open Question: Question about not eating organic food?

My mom refuses to buy organic food because of the high pricesI just learned about all the facts on non-organic food (the hormones and chemicals that they put in things) and now I'm really worried. My mom WILL NOT buy organic food and almost everyone I know buys it I feel like I'm the only one who's gonna get sick when I'm older and I plan to buy organic food when I move out of the house when I'm 18. Will it be too late by then to change my eating habbits? And, can you name any foods that those hormones aren't in, unless it's in ALL food : (

Resolved Question: Has anyone ever died or gotten seriously ill from the pesticide residue in eating non-organic foods?

I've been looking into the health claims of organic foods, not using chemical pesticides and the health risks of genetically modified foods. My two questions are: Has anyone ever died or gotten seriously ill from the pesticide residue in eating non-organic foods (not from farming accidents involving pesticides)? And has anyone died or gotten ill from genetically modified foods? Seeing as billions of people in the world eat conventional foods, it should be easy to find cases for these. Please cite sources, thanks.

Voting Question: How much should I charge per meal as a Personal Chef?

I know a personal trainer and I am thinking about becoming a personal chef for his clients. They are mostly on the Paleo diet which deals with lean meats, no dairy, and possible organic foods. He thinks that I should charge somewhere between $7-$10 per meal. Although the meals will be small which will reduce food expenses they still might be high if they want organic food. I feel that I should be making about $7 profit per meal. Should I charge a delivery fee?

Voting Question: Am I experiencing a miracle?

About a month ago my 7 y o border collie was limping and they thought she had a pulled muscle and then she started flopping over and she was diagnosed with an ear infection and a busted disc in her back and we took her to the back surgeon, but he saw neurological signs so he sent us like 8 hours away to get her an MRI and they diagnosed her with a rare massive, aggressive, untreatable tumor in the middle of her brain and sent her home with prednisone. I immediately switched her diet to homemade zero carb zero sugar organic food and started using the BUdwig diet, alkaline drops in her water, and oral hydrogen peroxide therapy, plus energy healing. She did good for like a week except her eyes disconnected, then she went a couple days of not realy wanting to eat or drink (we pureed her food and managed to get a decent amount of food and water in her anyways) and she just laid there like she was in a coma, peed on herself, ect. Today she can't walk by herself, but can walk when supported and has eaten huge amounts of chicken and veggies twice plus drank plenty and can hold her pee until we take her outside (still hasn't pooped since day before last though) and roll herself over, and even crawl. It's not like before when she would just snap out of it for a few minutes and eat and go back unconscious-she's gradually getting better and raising her head when we talk to her and interested in chasing our cats again for the first time in several days. Could it be the alternative medicine is actually helping? UPDATE-She pooped! I've never been so thrilled to clean up poop in my life! Plus she was actually up and walking and trying to get up by HERSELF!

Voting Question: introducing or reintroducing foods to my pregnant stomach.?

I am 16 weeks pregnant and I have pregnancy "constipation" however, when I eat other things that I haven't had in a long time, I feel fine but the next day "it cleans me out" Does this happen to any of you? Maybe its what Im eatting? Normally I eat very very healthy, no fried, no extra oils, mostly organic. when I was 9weeks pregnant I had some shrimp tempura and steamed salmon at a sushi place, this was the first time this occured. And then yesterday at a high-end, upscale seafood & chop house in San Fran I had some breaded & lightly fried squid with fresh dungness crab meat. Maybe its the different mix of seafoods at once or the fried food. Anyway, does anything odd make your bodys act funny when your preggers?

Voting Question: why am i not loosing weight if all i eat is fruit and vegetables all day long?

All I have been eating is fruit and vegetables (Mango, Cucumber, Broccoli, banana, apple, and carrots in particular). I am also eating non-fat yogurt for breakfast, and light swiss cheese with no carbs, and one other snack (i.e. light organic potato chips with 5g of fat, string cheese, etc.). All I am drinking is water. I haven't eaten any unhealthy foods. But, I eat fruit and vegetables all day long. For example: I'll eat yogurt and mango at 8:00 then i'll eat a banana and swiss cheese at 9:00 Then I'll eat Cucumbers at 10:00 Carrots at around 11:30 And then at lunch I eat like 3 pieces of light swiss cheese and broccoli (I am not very hungry at lunch, because I eat All day.) then at dinner i eat a normal meal, like last night i had an average size portion of spaghetti and some bread. The night before that, I had 5 potstickers and Broccoli. So, basically, I eat all day, but I only eat healthy foods, and very little fat. Why am I not loosing weight? I just want to lose about 2 or 3 pounds. I weigh 126 right now. My waist is 26.5 in. I want it to be 25 in. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks.

Voting Question: Puppy throwing up, change of food. normal?

I've recently changed my 4 month old Maltese's food from this organic brand called By Nature to Puppy Chow. Last night she threw up three times and then once in her crate. She's only given 1/4 cup of food twice a day and I've mixed very little into it. I wanted to change this brand of food because it's not what I give my dogs, but the pet store I got her from had given this to her since she was sent there. I've been told that this breed can't have soy, wheat, or corn because of allergies and I know corn is in Puppy Chow, but others that I've asked said it shouldn't be a problem. Is it normal for her to throw up after? I mean all day yesterday she was playing A LOT and my boyfriend said she might have just upset her stomach from running around so much. It's been the second day she's been on the mixed food. Should I just stick with the By Nature or will this subside?

Resolved Question: Why does organic food cost more?

I've looked around grocery stores & always wondered why organic costs more. Organic is great and tastes better. But why the higher price? (continued)if less hormones & chemicals are used.

Voting Question: Dog pregnancy Question?

Hello, i have a 3yr old female this is her first litter. Before anyone begins to say anything, she is Purple ribbon UKC/ABKC reg. she goes to confirmation shows, funshows and weight pulls. She has been cleared of all genetic problems known to my breed of choice which include Tyroid, Elbow and hip dysplasia and have had her eyes checked. I also donate and volunteer at a pet rescue for my breed, i find all pup homes prior to breeding, and will take All my pups back if need be to keep them out the shelter, all pups go home on a spay/neuter contract unless going to a show home, and the pup is a show quality pup, with that said I'm asking this question because as you may assume at 11:50pm my vet is closed. I have done 2 xrays on her both alittle to early to see anything. Ive been breeding, showing and raising this breed for 20yrs. And this female has thrown me for a loop. Even though she is only 40ish days pregnant her boobs are filled with milk she had a normal clear discharge (still does) throughout her pregnancy. Her tum was getting firm and she gained a heathly 18lbs she was lazy did not have much energy and wanted nothing to do with our male stud. Well now she has lost weight in the past few days, she has regained all her energy and her tum feels more flabby now, she also for the first time in over a month is playing and being hyper with our male again. She eats a high quality organic dog food (taste of the wild) 32% protien, 19% fat. (we also feed raw, but we have switched her to kibble for the pups, also raw, and she drinks goats milk daily) I am thinking she may reasborbed the pups, i dont think she miscarried due to hte fact she is showing no signs of a miscarriage. She was pregnant the vet said he did not feel any pups, but her swollon abdoman and weight gain was a great sign (capt. obviouse/lol) i still hear no heart beats, and feel no pups my self (even though i try not to feel too hard i dont want to harm any pups) i WILL be taking her to the vet tomorrow morning, i just wanted other opinions on here for S's and G's. well she had adboman weight gain, girth. and my vet said she was pregnant due to her weight gain. im not 110% it wasnt a false pregnancy but she did tie up twice with our male, She had milk (which could be false pregnancy) but with the still swollon vagina, and her energy lose im pretty sure it wasnt a false preg well raven, i sent off for her ADBA papers as well, i have plenty of people to speak too, ive spoken with them i merely came on here to get opinions your's if as valued as someone elses. She has won best female a number of times, coming in first place in UKC shows a number of times, (its all a point system) i got skin cancer and have been rather sick i was unable to continue taking her but have recently statred back in the past 3 months. She has won best over all, best female, best blue, best conditions, and highest weight for her class.. all 4x+ =) who pissed in your cornflakes hunny Yea but due to 2 xrays and vet exam she was/is pregnant, so that is why i am confused about the false pregnancy ive had dogs with false pregnancies before, but usually if its a false one they dont carry this long, and dont gain this much weight, and dont have a swollon vagina and have no discharge (as if they were pregnant)

Voting Question: Are there any effects to eating expired salsa?

I accidentally consumed expired salsa both this morning and this afternoon. I ate about 3/4 of the jar and after taking my time to actually taste it I noticed that it had almost a vomit/sour flavor to it. I thought maybe because it was Trader Joe's brand all organic salsa but then I went to smell it and it smelt pretty horrible. I than checked the expiration date and noticed that it expired 09/09/05. My stomach has been hurting pretty bad and it seems to be getting worse but is it possible to get food poisoning or anything along those lines from an unopened can of salsa? There was no damage to the jar and the top wasn't bulging out but I don't know if I should just sleep it off or call my doctor because I really don't have the money to go.

Voting Question: Moldy dog foodwill my dog be OK?

OKso I feed my dog an organic (aka preservative-free) dog food and I keep it in a Rubbermaid garbage pail with a tight lid that snaps shut. My doggie goes through a full pail about every month. This morning, my daughter scooped his food out and noticed it was covered in a greenish, grayish dusty mold. At first I didn't believe her when she told me-I had just fed him the night before and didn't notice anything. Then I looked for myself and sure enough, it was moldy. I dumped it out and in the bottom of the pail was a NASTY black and green and white clumpy mass of moldy food. I am concerned on 2 levels-first and foremost for my dog's safety. He didn't eat any of the visibly moldy food, but could the food from the last couple of days have been contaminated? What symptoms should I look for to indicate a problem? Secondly, assuming that no one accidently spilled some other kind of food or liquid in the pail, what am I doing wrong as far as storing it? I am guessing that maybe my 2 yo son poured water or something in there, that's all I can come up with other than maybe the food was bad to begin with. Oh, I cleaned the pail with a solution of hot water and vinegar and let it dry thoroughly before putting brand new food in there. Should that kill any mold spores? (We don't use bleach). Thanks!!!! Just did a little research-it appears that straight vinegar will in fact kill mold and is actually preferred over bleach because it will not create disinfectant-resistant bacteria or molds. I wiped down the container and scoop with straight vinegar and he does not have any symptoms of sickness so the vet is not concerned.

Resolved Question: Why is my puppy itchy?

My puppy doesn't have any fleas but he is always itching. We thought it was the food and I changed it to organic food and I also bought this shampoo that's for itchiness but it does'nt seem to be working. So does anybody have any ideas ?
