Open Question: What is the parent material of this soil? And based on the material is it good for building on?

PULASKI SERIES The Pulaski series consists of very deep, well drained, moderately rapidly permeable flood plain soils that formed in loamy alluvial sediments of Recent age. These nearly level to very gently sloping flood plain soils are on small tributaries in the Cross Timbers (MLRA-84A). Slopes are 0 to 3 percent. Mean annual precipitation is 34 inches. Mean annual temperature is 61 degrees F. TAXONOMIC CLASS: Coarse-loamy, mixed, superactive, nonacid, thermic Udic Ustifluvents TYPICAL PEDON: Pulaski fine sandy loam--cultivated. (Colors are for dry soils unless otherwise stated.) Ap--0 to 7 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) fine sandy loam, reddish brown (5YR 4/4) moist; weak fine and very fine granular structure; soft, very friable; moderately acid; clear smooth boundary. (0 to 12 inches thick) A--7 to 19 inches; reddish brown (5YR 5/4) fine sandy loam, reddish brown (5YR 4/4) moist; weak fine and very fine granular structure; slightly hard, very friable; moderately acid; gradual smooth boundary. (4 to 20 inches thick) C1--19 to 40 inches; yellowish red (5YR 5/6) fine sandy loam, yellowish red (5YR 4/6) moist; massive; slightly hard, very friable; few thin strata of darker colored fine sandy loam in lower part; slightly acid; gradual smooth boundary. (16 to 41 inches thick) C2--40 to 64 inches; reddish yellow (5YR 6/6) fine sandy loam, yellowish red (5YR 5/6) moist; massive, slightly hard, very friable; common thin strata of loamy fine sand; slightly acid. TYPE LOCATION: Lincoln County, Oklahoma; about 6 miles north and 1 mile east of Chandler; 1,135 feet north and 200 feet east of the southwest corner of sec. 2, T. 15 N., R. 4 E. RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: Some pedons have buried horizons below a depth of 30 inches. The 10- to 40-inch control section is noneffervescent. The A horizon has hue of 2.5YR to 10YR, value of 4 to 7, and chroma of 2 to 6. Where the A horizon has moist value and chroma less than 3.5 and is more than 10 inches thick, the organic matter content is less than 1 percent. Texture is fine sandy loam, loam, or loamy fine sand. Where the texture is loamy fine sand, the thickness is less than 10 inches. Reaction is moderately acid to slightly alkaline. The C horizon has hue of 2.5YR to 7.5YR, value of 4 to 7, and chroma of 3 to 8. Texture is fine sandy loam, very fine sandy loam, or loam. Some pedons have a texture of loamy fine sand below a depth of 40 inches. Strata of coarser or finer materials occur throughout the C horizon. The strata range from 2 mm to 25 mm thick and from 1 cm to 15 cm apart. Reaction ranges from moderately acid to slightly alkaline to a depth of 40 inches, and below a depth of 40 inches the reaction ranges from moderately acid to moderately alkaline. COMPETING SERIES: There are no known series in the same family. GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: Pulaski soils are on nearly level to very gently sloping flood plains of small tributaries in the Cross Timbers. Slopes are 0 to 3 percent. They formed in loamy alluvial sediments of Recent age. Mean Annual Precipitation: 30 to 40 inches. Mean Annual Temperature: 58 to 63 degrees F. Thornthwaite Annual P-E indices: 44 to 64. Frost free days: 200 to 230. Elevation: 700 to 1300 feet. Cyril, Tribbey, and Yahola soils occur on similar areas of the landscape. In addition, Cyril soils have a mollic epipedon. Gaddy, Gracemont, and Gracemore soils usually occur on flood plains nearer the stream channel of the larger streams. In addition, Gracemont and Gracemore soils have an apparent water table within 20 to 40 inches of the soils surface and are calcareous throughout and Gracemore soils have a sandy control section. Ashport, Easpur, and Port soils occur at slightly higher elevations. Ashport and Port soils have a mollic epipedon and a fine-silty textural control section. Easpur soils have a mollic epipedon and a fine-loamy textural control section. DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained; negligible runoff; moderately rapid permeability. These soils are occasionally or frequently flooded for very brief periods of time during the months of March to October. USE AND VEGETATION: Mainly cultivated to alfalfa, small grains, grain sorghums, cotton, and tame pasture. Native vegetation is tall and midgrasses with an overstory of pecan, black walnut, American elm, eastern cottonwood, and tamarisk.

Open Question: Why should we bury nuclear waste?

It is proposed that we bury nuclear waste for which of the following reasons? 1)It needs to be stored away from people for a long period of time. 2)It will not burn so it cannot be incinerated. 3)It loses its radioactivity as it reacts with organic matter and minerals in the soil 4)It is hot. The answer could be one, some, or all of the above. Thanks

Ascomycota Basidiomycota Deuteromycota Ciliophora

Open Question: When buying organic broccoli, how do you get all the bugs out of it?

Broccoli is the only organic veggie I notice bug problems with. I have rinsed it over and over and over again, I have had it soak in water, draining the water and resoaking it over and over again.. but still.. some of the little bugs always remain. This happens, no matter where I buy it. I mean, I would rather eat a little bug then pesticide poison, but obviously I would rather not eat either oneAnyone have any good tricks or tips?

Open Question: Noah's Ark -- Fact or Forgery?

Let's also not forget the incomprehensible amount of rain that fell over that comical 40 day period 40 days = 960 hours Mt. Everest = 29,035 ft +20 bonus feet (Genesis 7:19) Divide 29,055 feet by 960 hours That's equal to 30.26 feet of rain per hour which also translates to 6.052 inches of rain per minute. Trust me, there was NOBODY pounding on the outside of that ship trying to get in. Why? They were hydraulically pinned to the ground. That's like standing underneath a waterfall that surrounds the entire circumference of the planet. Let's pretend that Mt. Ararat was the only mountain around and plug our numbers back into it: 40 days = 960 hours Mt. Ararat = 16,945 ft +20 bonus feet (Genesis 7:19) Divide 16,965 feet by 960 hours This is now equal to 17.67 inches of rain per hour and 3.5 inches of rain per minute. This is still enough to strip all organic matter from on top of any layer of bedrock. See? Creationists deserve to be laughed at

Resolved Question: Will an improved GPA in December count for anything once I've applied to med school in November?

Most medical schools that I'll be applying for have a deadline of or around November 15th. I'm currently taking two science classes, which I expect to improve my GPA to about 3.4, but I'm wondering if that even matters once I submit my application before those grades come out. My main question is could I immediately forward my December transcripts to the selected medical schools I just applied to in November, and better my chances of acceptance? This is hypothetical, assuming I already have a high MCAT score (will be taking it very soon). Would they accept the newer transcript at all? Either way, they need to know that I've taken and passed Organic Chem II, which is the final required pre-med course I'm taking, and it would seem like it should be accepted, but I'm not sure. I know I could always reapply for another year, but I'm really hoping I can get it right the first time around. Wishful thinking, but eh, I'm trying.

Open Question: I had a Colon Hydrotherapy Cleanse, what does this mean?!?

Hey everyone. So just this past Thursday at 7pm, I had a colon cleanse done. It was intense and not something I enjoyed. I had serious digestive issues and the Doctor's would always look at me, tell me I'm too young (23) for anything serious, would say it's IBS and send me home. Well I am constantly in pain, no matter what I eat, and could never poop (well, I could but it wasn't every day and never fun). So I did the colon cleanse. That night I went home, took it easy, etc. The next day, I tried to be healthy (which I actually am all the time) but we went back home for the long weekend and on Friday night I had a chicken dinner and wine. The next day I did the same for dinner (including wine). Everyday I was able to poop normally with no real issues. Today; however, I was woken up at 5am with the worst case of diahrrea. I thought that once I sat on the toilet for a bit and had no feelings of an upste stomach - I would be fine. Well, every hour or so I'm running to the bathroom and it's pure liquid. Last night I had a laxitive organic tea; which I've had before and had no effect on me perhaps because I was backed up prior to my cleanse? I'm praying that it's from the tea, but it's still effecting me from last night and it's 2:30pm now. So I'm worried that the colon cleanse ruined me. Is this normal? Please help!!!

Open Question: What can you drink if you don't like water?

I have a friend who is practically self-loathing because of her weight, and thinks anyone who tells her she is pretty is a huge liar. She says she doesn't like water because it doesn't have flavor, no matter what kind of water it is. She doesn't like the stuff that you can add to water because its gross, and she is allergic to artificial sweeteners. Her kids drink juice, but she supposedly doesn't like juice. Her husband drinks tea, but she says she doesn't see any difference between tea and soda because they both have caffeine and sugar. I know I drink organic green tea with organic agave nectar to sweeten it. She "says" she's tried to quit her addiction to Mountain Dew, but hasn't been able to. She is a really good friend of mine, despite her flaws, and I really want to help her. What can I tell her? Please and thanks in advance =) Yeah, just fyi, diet soda is just as bad as regular soda. Well I liked the rest of your answer, but you are right, diet soda isn't just as bad as regular soda, its WORSE. Soda in general is bad for you, and I know plenty of people who switched to water from soda and lost a ton of weight and became much healthier because of the negative effects soda has on your body. ^ at Sheena

Voting Question: Is it just me, or do you find yourself distant from societal norms in a lot of aspects?

I asked a series of questions tonight that were in fact true and people found me gross in nearly every single one For one, I mentioned that in the past prior to 11th grade (Im 19 and in college now) I never used shampoo hardly ever (maybe once in a blue moon but for the most part I did not) I never used deodorant reguarly until the past few months in my life - absolutely not in high school at all. It just wasn't a part of my waking up routine. I wear the same jeans for months without washing them. What's the point if their clearly not dirty and I don't thrust myself into filth (Like you won't see me jumping in mud anytime soon) I often wear the same underwear for days before putting on a new pair. Same with socks (especially if their a comfortable pair) I don't wash my pillow or pillow sheet or bed covers for that matter at all. I try to do it at least once a year for good measure though I have no social life- I guess I wouldn't mind a friend or two but I'm not gonna make a big deal out of it. I pay very close attention to what I consume in my body- I eat fairly healthy for a guy my age- I rarely eat fast food. Almost never drink Soda. and I do indulge in a bad food- I feel obligated to exercise in order to burn it off as soon as possible. When I graduate college (and If I have the money) someday I'd love to try out a 100% organic diet so I can get rid of all the filth I put in my body and put only clean pure food inside of me. To my budget, I try to do that as much as I can now though. I also put a strong emphasis in educating myself. I'm in college and I always love to learn new things. I unlike most people like to have good handwriting and practice cursive for fun. I can write and jot down notes on paper in class without even looking at what I write neatly and fast. So creativity and educating myself is important. i care a lot about expanding my mind and all that, sure I have my lazy moments like all of us- but like some of you- I also love to engage my mind in creative exercises and stimulate new thoughts into my head Well that's me in a nut shell (although I wouldn't say it to be fair to judge who I am based on a mere single question) Sure I'm odd and I'm not your conventional guy but the way I look at it- The world doesn't need more of the same- the world needs different because without different we would fail to not invoke some of societies greatest inventors, ideas you name it-- we wouldn't be able to progress and advance foward as a society. So that's just my 2 cents. If you read all of this-- give yourself a little pat on the back! =)

Open Question: If we are constantly harming ourselves in little ways, what is the point in self preservation?

We have to admit. We are constantly not making or making the choice to do things that in turn are not good for our bodies. Because lets get real - not all of us are eating all organic, and the cleanest of the clean. Even with the laughable good intentions of avoiding alcohol, smoking, and taking drugs while at the same time reduce our health ethics to not thinking about that cheese burger or take out we constantly eat or that our grocery store foods are GMO foods, leading to cancer. Let me make a philosophical argument, presently the point that this unavoidable part of being human, we are never constant preserving our health 100% of any time and death with come knocking no matter how much you prepare. It's not about how long you live, but the way you live it. With this point being made, whether I go decide to ruin my health or not, it matters not because of the constant other things I don't notice, ruining my health (aging too.) It seems to be a matter of opinion on those choices and when people feel really smug about themselves because they think they live a healthy life, .. it's really just a big ego illusion. The present state doesn't always necessarily represent the truth of the process. Retorts? or ideas? First Commenter: Interesting example, but still only further proves the opinion of one person wanting to be very self preserving and one not. If the sandwich is representing life, you would eventually have to eat that entire crap sandwich; it representing death in the end. It is only a matter of how fast you eat it. Second Answer: I'm really going to have to spend a lot of time thinking about this one. Very interesting, although this makes me wonder, 'Do bacteria drive us into suicidal or harmful behavior then? And if we have almost become one with bacteria, relying on each other for survival, does that show any relation to why we choose self destructive behavior? Third Answer: You really have no idea what the topic really is about. . . That's all I have to say about that. Fourth Answer: I think I know what you mean. A middle way, sort of. I'm not sure if it's an over simplification though. It is what it is. You described preference/and or choice. It just seems like the choice to get to the finish line or delay it lies in choice. The fact that we all die no matter what, makes the choices in life redundant regardless of what people think is the right or wrong, preferable or non preferable choice.

Open Question: Is Evolution and Reincarnation the Same?

Reincarnation Definition: The belief that one is reborn in one or more successive existences, which may be human or animal. Usually it is an intangible “soul” that is believed to be reborn in another body. Not a Bible teaching. Evolution Definition: Organic evolution is the theory that the first living organism developed from lifeless matter. Then, as it reproduced, it is said, it changed into different kinds of living things, ultimately producing all forms of plant and animal life that have ever existed on this earth. All of this is said to have been accomplished without the supernatural intervention of a Creator. Some persons endeavor to blend belief in God with evolution, saying that God created by means of evolution, that he brought into existence the first primitive life forms and that then higher life forms, including man, were produced by means of evolution. Not a Bible teaching.

Voting Question: This is my college application essay, how is it so far?

I would like to share with you something about my current medical situation. Ordinarily I would not do so, as I am an intensely private person, but I now accept that my physical limitations have quite possibly impacted my high school performance in a negative manner, and I feel that it is only fair that you have this information. Therefore, I am reluctantly going to allow access to information that I would never, otherwise, speak of. For the past several years, I have been afflicted by a physical situation that has sometimes interfered with my ability to focus, both in the classroom and out. I do not wish to be too specific about the symptoms of my disease, except to say that they are digestive in nature and sometimes require me to spend long periods of time in the Ladies’ Room. Despite my terrible discomfort, I refused to accept that there might be something wrong with me, and would not seek treatment. I know now that I should have been less determined to suffer in silence and more willing to accept help. Finally, my parents insisted on bringing the matter to the attention of a physician. I was tested, over a period of several weeks, for colon cancer, Crohn’s Disease, intestinal obstructions, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, Heliocobacter pylori (commonly known as ulcer), celiac sprue (commonly known as wheat allergy), lactose intolerance, gallstones, bile duct stones, sclerosing cholangitis (the narrowing of the bile ducts), “Sphincter of Oddi” dysfunction and pancreatitis. You can imagine how relieved I was to learn that I had none of these terrible diseases. Finally, I received the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS is sometimes known as spastic colon, nervous colon, nervous stomach, mucous colitis and spastic colitis, and is distinguished by abnormal bowel habits, such as diarrhea (loose stools), constipation or sometimes, as in my own case, both. It is well known to experts in this field that periods of stress can intensify the severity of IBS. I have certainly found my busy schedule of six honors/AP classes, Varsity field hockey, swimming and track teams, performing lead roles in three consecutive Spring Musicals, volunteering at the local animal shelter, tutoring at-risk children, and working three evenings a week plus all day Saturday at The Gap to be, at times, stressful, but of course it is impossible to say what has caused me to be afflicted with this very horrible syndrome. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS or spastic colon) is a diagnosis of exclusion. It is a functional bowel disorder characterized by chronic abdominal pain, discomfort, bloating, and alteration of bowel habits in the absence of any detectable organic cause.[1] In some cases, the symptoms are relieved by bowel movements.[2] Diarrhea or constipation may predominate, or they may alternate (classified as IBS-D, IBS-C or IBS-A, respectively). IBS may begin after an infection (post-infectious, IBS-PI), a stressful life event, or onset of maturity without any other medical indicators. Although there is no cure for IBS, there are treatments that attempt to relieve symptoms, including dietary adjustments, medication and psychological interventions. Patient education and a good doctor-patient relationship are also important.[2] Several conditions may present as IBS including celiac disease, Fructose malabsorption,[3] mild infections, parasitic infections like giardiasis,[4] several inflammatory bowel diseases, functional chronic constipation, and chronic functional abdominal pain. In IBS, routine clinical tests yield no abnormalities, though the bowels may be more sensitive to certain stimuli, such as balloon insufflation testing. The exact cause of IBS is unknown. The most common theory is that IBS is a disorder of the interaction between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, although there may also be abnormalities in the gut flora or the immune system.[5][6] IBS does not lead to more serious conditions in most patients.[7][8][9][10][11] But it is a source of chronic pain, fatigue, and other symptoms, and it increases a patient's medical costs,[12][13] and contributes to work absenteeism.[14][15] Researchers have reported that the high prevalence of IBS,[16][17][18] in conjunction with increased costs produces a disease with a high societal cost.[19] It is also regarded as a chronic illness and can dramatically affect the quality of a sufferer's life. In fact, doctors do not know what causes IBS, or why people who share my disease feel the need to have a bowel movement soon after eating, causing diarrhea, or why the prolonged spasm of the large intestine causes stool to stay in one area for too long and get dried out, resulting in small hard stools (constipation). As of today, palliative treatments are only in the experimental stage, and the hard truth is that there is no cure for IBS.

Voting Question: Do you include salad as a veggie on the HCG diet? How much did you lose? HELP!!?

It seems that no matter how many times I read Pounds and Inches, or read info on the internet I can never seem to find how much lettuce you can really eat on the HCG diet. Some sites are saying you can eat a salad with vinegar dressing (or one of the HCG made dressings) in ADDITION to your protien and veggie, and others are saying you would count the salad AS your veggie. Another thing REALLY how much are you supposed to eat. I am on day 1 of the VLCD and I did GREAT today, BUT I wasn't sure how much broccoli to measure out so I ate a 1/2 cup of fresh raw organic broccoli with my seasoned chicken. Could I have eaten a salad with it (not that I really needed it, but just for future reference) and also am I allowed to have more broccoli than that. Fruits and meats seem to be very easy to follow but the veggies confuse me a bit. LOL! Also do any of you have some recipe ideas? How much did you losehow long did you go for? WHEW!! Sorry for all the questionsTHANKS IN ADVANCE!!!! :)

Resolved Question: BS or BA in Biology? Does it really matter?

I currently plan on getting a bachelor's degree, with a major in Biology and a minor in animal science. I know the difference in the curriculum of the B of Science and the B of Arts. Basically, with the BS curriculum focuses mainly on the sciences (ie Organic chemistry 1&2, General Chemistry 1&2, Calculus 1&2, etc). The BA focuses on biology, but involves a lot more of the core courses and fine arts (ie 4 Foreign Language courses, english, etc) Does it really matter which one I get? Do employers generally have a preference when looking to hire people? Thanks! Universities DO give out BS and BAs in the same subject matter

Resolved Question: Biochemistryhelp please!?

Abiogenesis refers to how living organisms arose from inanimate matter. Place the following sentences in order according to how life on Earth may have arisen from terrestrial origins. Only 4 sentences will be used. 1) Organic molecules self-assembled into more complex molecules and polymers. 2) Larger organic molecules became enclosed within a membrane like structure. 3) Meteorites that impacted Earth about 4 billion years ago contained traces of 18 amino acids. 4) Simple inorganic compounds were exposed to energy in the form of light, heat and lightning. 5) Simple organic molecules such as amino acids, formed from precursors exposed to energy So u think "Simple inorganic compounds were exposed to energy in the form of light, heat and lightning." would happen first? The order i put in the beginning was 5,4,2,1 but turned out wrong :/

Resolved Question: I believe my science teacher told me something wrong today in class?

I am in International Baccalaureate Program at my school so are science is pretty advanced. We were doing a lab on Calorimetry and were testing the calories in different foods. It involves lighting the food on fire beneath a beaker of 15 ml of water and measuring the change in temperature the open flame has on the water. We measured the mass of the marshmallows and almonds and stuff before lighting them aflame. Then we measured the ashes of the food after they burned. I found that the mass of the ashes was surprisingly less than the mass we started with. I was thinking Law of Conservation of Mass tells use matter is neither created nor destroyed so where did the matter go. I pondered and realized it was the smoke rising and was like how could I forget that. I told other students of my findings and my teacher blurted out I was wrong. He said the remaining matter was thermal energy in the form of calories. I was always taught previous to this that matter is only converted into matter in a reaction. It is not always directly into energy. I told my teacher that the mass of the smoke would equal the missing mass and he said that the smoke would have little effect on mass. He said most if not all the missing mass was now in the form of thermal energy instead of the smoke. My question is, is he right with the calorie deal or am I right with the smoke and conservation of mass. I think he looks down on me with disgust for one reason. I went to the ghetto middle school so he always objects what I have to say. He gets along real well with the rich white kids but not me the low class poor white kid. There is a little biased and prejudiced going on here. The other day we were talking about hydrocarbons and organic compounds and I was explaining word for word the difference between inorganic compounds with carbon and organic compounds. He called me wrong and looked at me with a level of disgust. When he went to explain it, it was very close what I had just said. Just because I spoke in a different context than him. I liked my old science teachers Mrs. Lane and Mrs. Reaves both always agreed with me accepted my input. I am a very huge nerd but I am discriminated against because I went to a non perfect middle school. Teachers always get a prenotion about my abilities. I always find myself proving my intelligence. Your level of intelligence should not be measured by the clothes or money you have but by how well you adapt yourself and engage in new problems and answer questions. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Patient education and a good doctor-patient relationship are also important. Several conditions may present as IBS including celiac disease, Fructose malabsorption,[3] mild infections, parasitic infections like giardiasis, several inflammatory bowel diseases, functional chronic constipation, and chronic functional abdominal pain. In IBS, routine clinical tests yield no abnormalities, though the bowels may be more sensitive to certain stimuli, such as balloon insufflation testing. The exact cause of IBS is unknown. The most common theory is that IBS is a disorder of the interaction between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract, although there may also be abnormalities in the gut flora or the immune system. IBS does not lead to more serious conditions in most patients. But it is a source of chronic pain, fatigue, and other symptoms, and it increases a patient's medical costs, and contributes to work absenteeism. Researchers have reported that the high prevalence of IBS, in conjunction with increased costs produces a disease with a high societal cost. It is also regarded as a chronic illness and can dramatically affect the quality of a sufferer's life. It has been very difficult for me to accept this diagnosis at my young age

Resolved Question: College lectures question?

I attend a large public university with more students than there are available seats in classes. I was trying to get into a lecture with organic 1 professor A but there are no seats available in his lecture. There are however seats in professor B's class but he's not such a great lecturer and the class is at 9am while the other is at 2. I am not a morning person but I really need this class to graduate on time. I was thinking that since organic is organic no matter who teaches it. I would register for professor B's class, but attend professor A's lecture to learn the material. I would still take the test in professor B's class though and do his h.w. and what not. I have already looked at their syllabus and find that I can miss professor B's lecture with no penalty since it is a large (200 students) lecture and he does not take attendance. Assuming I attend professor A's class, study what professor B says to study, and do professor B's hw, do you think I can get away with attending another lecture where I am more likely to understand the lecture style? I really need this class, but professor B's broken english, heavy accent, and early class time make it unlikely that I will do well. I figure I can learn the material in one and do the work in the other. Any thoughts on this. This is kind of my last resort.

Resolved Question: Do we have illegal aliens to thank for reintroducing bedbugs to the U.S.?

Bedbugs Aren't Just Back, They're Spreading by NPR Staff August 21, 2010 A bedbug enjoys the the ectoparasitic life. August 21, 2010 Bedbugs are spreading. At first, they appeared in places that you might expect: dense city centers such as New York, where officials may seek a bed bug czar, and San Francisco, which is trying landlord-education programs to keep the pests away. But now, there are reports of bedbug infestations in homes and hotels from Ohio to Texas. The stories are downright creepy. Exterminator James Self, who owns Ameritex Pest Control in Beaumont, Texas, says he was called out to one bedbug-riddled site that was like a scene from a horror movie. "There were spots all over the walls, and I didn't know what that was," Self recalls. "I thought maybe it was some wallpaper decoration or something. But as I approached it, it was totally covered in bedbugs — more than I've ever seen. And that's the one where we had to rip up the carpet, throw away all the furniture. It was terrible." 'You Should Be Worried' This business of feeding on other people I think we all know some people like that do that, don’t we now? Maybe bedbugs aren’t so awfully different than somebody we know. - Michael Raupp Infestations like that are popping up across the country at an alarming frequency. "You should be worried — very, very, very worried," says Michael Raupp, an entomologist at the University of Maryland who spoke with NPR's Audie Cornish about the bedbug resurgence. Raupp runs a website called "Bug of the Week," and this week's star is — you guessed it — the bedbug. "They're really not just for bedrooms anymore," he warns. "They really have become widespread almost in any kind of establishment where people live and sleep, throughout both small and large cities." Raupp says bedbugs go where the food is. And for these critters, the "food" is sleeping human beings. "The problem is, as people go about their daily act of going to an office or going to a movie theater, for that matter, the probability that they are going to bring bedbugs with them increases," he says. "As people move about," Raupp says, "they are unwittingly bringing bedbugs with them." There was a time in American history when bedbugs were just accepted as a part of life, he notes. "Prior to the First World War, prior to the DDT era and the time of our synthetic/organic pesticides, bedbugs were commonplace," Raupp says. "That old rhyme, 'Goodnight, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite,' harkens to the colonial era in the U.S., when bedbugs were commonplace in taverns and inns." It seems they could achieve that same ubiquity in the U.S. once again. Borderless Bugs "We're now in the era where people travel everywhere," Raupp says. "They just don't go to major cities like London or Paris. We have people going to second world countries and third world countries where, frankly, bedbugs are commonplace. And these guys are real troopers — they're hitchhikers and stowaways." "Whenever we travel, there's always a possibility that we can bring bedbugs home with us," Raupp says. "And bedbugs don't discriminate. This is not a matter of poor sanitation or poor housekeeping or uncleanliness." So how do people know if they've got a bedbug infestation? Raupp says your skin can tell you. "One of the first symptoms that you'll see of a bedbug infestation is unusual bites," Raupp says. "And these bites aren't going to be on your ankles, where the mosquitoes usually bite you, or on your arms. These bites could be on your neck, they could be on your shoulders, they could be down on your legs somewhere. They could be anywhere on your body. "These are gonna be small, itchy red welts — unusual bites," he adds, noting that people should call in professionals if they see these warning signs. "This is not one that you're going to want to tackle yourself," Raupp says. In spite of the distress bedbugs bring, Raupp says he's still a fan. "I find all bugs mysterious, wonderful. These ones I tend to find a little bit despicable. But they're fascinating in their own regard. "This business of feeding on other people — the ectoparasitic life — I think we all know some people that do that, don't we now? And maybe bedbugs aren't so awfully different than somebody we know," he says. "So, there's a little bit of us in them, perhaps." We can already thank illegals for Multi-drug-resistant-Tuberculosis, Whooping cough, Leprosy, and many other long lost diseases! How many ways can they find to make us as third world as they are!?!? @George L, Yes, they have leper colonies in Arizona. Lepers that crossed illegally in from Mexico. The colonies are there to try to keep Leprocy from spreading.

Resolved Question: Need someone to review this essay?

Is composting an efficient way of reducing trash? Draft 2# Garbage is an arduous task troubling communities across the country, but it’s peculiar why the situation hasn’t yet to be resolved. It takes an ingenuous idea for these issues, even though they do not get acknowledged for. They involve the participation of a community to contribute with waste removal. One of the many efficient ways of reducing garbage consumption is composting, because twenty-six percent of landfills are occupied by organic waste. It is not unusual to wonder what composting is, and how it improves with garbage consumption. It is a technique that has been practiced by farmers for centuries . From the foods consumed by average American families, to the clipping of flowers, everything organic can be added with a compost bin. The next steps involve adding worms, oxygen, and eventually allowing the decomposition process to happen by turning it over; with enough time, the compost turns into fertilizer . The fertilizer is the material used to add fertility to the soil, bringing life into it. Ultimately, it becomes used for the city and/or the residents personal uses. Throughout nature, the process is played out by the decomposition of dead animals and plant life. The organic materials are broken down into their’s simplest states, to then be absorbed back into the Earth. It’s purposes got manipulated by man, having it’s first accounts sited since the Roman Era. It’s practices were used by peasant farmers who needed to fertilized their soil. Similar to today, the whole process is done either indoors or outdoors, and is still known to be an efficient way of fertilizing soil for. Just recently, quiet a few companies- such as Nature Mill- have been trying to exploit this practice and make it user friendly. Typically many eco friendly Americans either dump their waste in a compost bin in the back yard and allow it to decompose, but this device allows the whole process to happen in the home. The whole process happens in a matter of weeks instead of the prolonged period of time that it takes The price for these type of products start high, but eventually decrease when it’s in high demand. In conclusion, composting has been doubted by many Americans because their reluctant to have it as a permanent solution. It takes dedication to allow the accumulation of unwanted materials to decompose in either a person’s home or backyard. The practice of it has been used throughout the world, having it’s main usage used by farmers. In the present day, it has been slowly matriculating into the commercial market and does have potential. Composting is only one of the many ways of reducing a persons garbage load, yet it still will take more creative and innovative ideas for a permanent solution.

Resolved Question: When is a good time to take the MCAT?

Well i came across a person that took the mcat and they only took bio/physics course then ended up getting a 31 overall. My question is do most pre meds take the mcat before or after they have taken all or most of there pre med requirements? And what year is also a good year to start studying for it? The thing im not understanding this person had not taken any organic chemistry courses etc. I understand you study alone for the test from many books etc but how do you get past the mcat without having no knowledge of some of the subjects in the test and still do well? So that ties to the first questions does it matter if you take most or all of your pre med requirements before you take the test or after. thank you.

Resolved Question: I relaxed my hair with black people relaxer?

(white boy with frizzy hair) relaxed it and it's straight now but what would be a good conditioner to use on my hair that will make it stay super soft i used the organic root stimulator with the olives on it??? if that matters no, it's a relaxer made for black people, it works differently ACTUALLY so just answer my question sami got it, she knows what she's talking about

Voting Question: Is it possible for me and my ex-girlfriend to get back together?

We broke up about 8 months ago, right after Christmas break, right after I picked her up from the airport and brought her flowers, right before we were going to watch the BCS championship game, and we still keep in contact. I've apologized to her numerous times, and we have the occasional lunch. I've made some personal changes for myself and so that she can see that I am going somewhere with my life after college graduation. (learning piano, trying to get a job as a paralegal, going to the gym, quit drinking, eating organic food) We haven't really progressed from the occasional lunch, and right now I'm trying to convince her to go for steaks at her favorite restaurant. I'd like things to be the way they were originally before the terrible argument. I'm an honest guy and I've asked her to tell me what I should specifically change and sacrifice about myself so that she would be happy in a relationship with me, but she states "I've told you once, I don't have to tell you again." The problem was that this was 8 months ago, and I don't have the memory of an autistic savant, and she isn't the type of person to give me hints on this. I feel like my life is one big guessing game and no matter what guesses I attempt, they aren't hitting the nail on the head of this problem. Is there any way that I can gently ask her what I can do? I really want to know so that I can have it written down somewhere so I can memorize it and think about it. Anyone been in a similar situation? I love her and I don't feel right dating other women. I know theres alot to grasp, but any input would be greatly appreciated.

Resolved Question: I just wanted to say..?

"You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else." So get your head outofyourass and wakethefuckup

Resolved Question: I have everybody convinced I'm a vegetarian?

At school and at theatre, I'm known for being a vegetarian, eating organic food, and hardly eating any junk food. But the truth is, I eat meat and seafood and pig out on junk food in secret! I don't eat much meat, though, just only in ethnic foods. And I looove junk food. I mean, I do want to be a vegetarian, but I just can't give up meat, I guess I'm a flexatarian. I wish I didn't like meat and seafood so much, no matter how many PETA videos I watch, I'm still wanting more. Should I try to become a vegetarian, or stay a flexatarian? As for the junk food, I've quit cold turkey now and I feel great about it! I gained 10 pounds this summer from a steady diet of whoopie pies but I've worked some of that weight off now! :) BQ: Do you know what a whoopie pie is? They're flipping delicious, I'll tell you that ;) They're flipping delicious, I'll tell you that ;) Well, the reason I want to be a vegetarian is because I don't like the idea of eating dead animals and how cruelly they're killed. But they're just so yummy. I do eat the fake meat and tofu and nuts and all that, though. I do like it, but not all the time.

Resolved Question: Why are many people pushing composting?

A lot of horticulturists warn against adding more than 5% organic matter to soil. Most soil already has sufficient organic matter, and would benfit more from non orangic amendments like sand, pumice. What are people supposed to do with all of this compost? http://www.sustainablehorticulture.com/myth-soil_amendments.pdf

Resolved Question: Does organic matter when it comes to spuds?

I love baked potatoes! I also do not like GMOs all up in my food. Unfortunately, with the research I have done on potatoes, I cannot find any evidence regarding Genetically Modified Potatoes in the grocery stores. Of course, in America, GMOs are not on any labels thanks to the corrupt government. Is there anyone out there that knows if all potatoes are organic or if I should definitely buy potatoes labeled "organically grown"?

Voting Question: what movie is this quote from?

You are not a beautiful or a unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else.

Voting Question: Why can't we eat dirt?

If you sieve out all the stones from a good compost why can't it be eaten? It's all organic matter (plus some minerals) so why not?

Voting Question: Which college chemistry is better suited for me?

Hi, i have taken chemistry in high school and i am signing up for college classes nowi am not sure which chemistry class i should take. In high school, we have discussed about: -moles -acid and base (a little bit) -Naming compounds -orbital -electronegativity -the gas, pressure, and temperature laws -ionic and covalent bonds -the periodic law my two college chemistry options are: CHEM 1062 - Principles of Chemistry II Topics include organic chemistry, intermolecular forces, liquids, solids, colligative properties, kinetics, equilibria, acids and bases, solubility equilibria, thermodynamics, oxidation-reduction, and electrochemistry. Three lecture hours and one three-hour laboratory per week OR CHEM 1020 - Interpretive Chemistry-LEC/LAB Fall 2010, Section 01 Topics include matter, measurement, atomic theory, bonding theory, nomenclature, organic chemistry, stoichiometry and the mole concept, reactions, liquids and solids, solutions, and acid-base chemistry. Three lecture hours and one two-hour laboratory per week. Ohi also got B in high school's chem class. I may not remember everything but i still have my old notes so i can always refresh my mind. ALSO!! THANK YOU very much for helping!!!

Resolved Question: High Lsat low gpa what should i do?

I am a pre med student who was originally pre law. I took my mcat and got a 31. I took a practice lsat out of curiosity and scored a 160 so i took the actual test and got a 172. I am interested in med school and law school the problem is my gpa is only 3.4. For med school its not as big a deal because i have a LOT of extra stuff and am otherwise a good candidate. I have heard that for law school if you have a low gpa nothing else really matters. My first year of college i was taking pre law liberal arts courses and got a 3.9 gpa for the year but then i switched to pre med and 3 years of phyics, organic chemistry and calculus trashed my gpa. Im not sure what to do at this point and what my realistic chances are at a decent law school are (decent enough to get a good job after)

Resolved Question: Could oil improve the soil and help growth?

I saw this today and I thought it was pretty darn funny that the plants are bouncing back so quickly. http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Signs-regrowth-seen-Gulf-oiled-marshes/ss/events/us/042110oilrigexplode Could this be some miracle or ultra rich organic matter? A friend wrote this on my FB page. This is her personal account Cat wrote: "at our old house, we had a place near the car port where Hal stored a plastic container of old motor oil until he could take it to recycle. The container cracked and leaked the oil into the soil around an old plum tree. The plum tree had borers and was not doing well before the "oil spill." But we noticed the next year that the damage from the borers on the tree were healed, the tree had grown quite a bit and was flowering like crazy. We got the best plum crop ever that year. Kind of made us wonder . . . Hummmmm"

Resolved Question: Scientifically based, proven skin care?

I would be very grateful if you would take the time to write an article about how to make up a skin regiment out of ingredients you might already have around the house- mostly in the kitchen probably. Don't get me wrong. i am not by any means advocating that the use of so called "natural" ingredient is somehow more beneficial in any way to the skin - taking that as a fact, as most people do, would be just stupid, with no bases in science, but in folklore and lack of sufficient scientific information. All matter in the universe is made up of atoms, and every single carbon atom for example, would be absolutely chemically identical to every single other carbon atom. Well, there are differences in the number of electrons - carbon atoms with different number of electrons are called ions, and differences in the number of neutrons, which make up isotopes, if there are differences in the number of protons, that'll be a different chemical element, but my point was referring to the fact that a naturally occurring carbon atom and a man synthesized one, providing they are identical in electron and neutrons numbers, do not, in any way, behave differently. Therefore all ingredients used in cosmetics, whether natural or man-made, have to be the subject of the same safety regulations. "Natural" doesn't really have an official definition in the first place - in the E.U. at least it doesn't - and in my opinion that's a good thing! ill explain in a minute - and without regulations, any company could promote their products as being natural which due to popular belief translates as better and as a result, to bigger sales for the company making the claim. The truth of the matter is, everything out there is natural! so a definition or regulation restricting the use of the term would not be required. Organic, sure, that's another thing, it refers to a more specific concept, but "natural", i simply can not imagine anything from this universe or a parallel one that is unnatural! This is a paradox in my opinion! Well, back to less philosophical and more practical stuff, the reason i am asking u to write such an article is that, financially, we're all having a hard time in this period, and no matter how cheap a cosmetic product is, ultimately, it is going to have a monetary cost - we live in a monetary sistem, everything has a cost, Further more, although "organic" or "naturally occurring" and "good for your skin" are not interchangeable, there is certainly a lot of stuff to be found in a household kitchen that can have potentially beneficial ingredients for your skin. Again, the reason im asking this is purely money, not false beneficial claims related to "natural" products. Also, im not referring to old, dated, or superstition based remedies, but on scientifically proven ingredients. im sure there are some to be found in there somewhere! most of the state of the art ingredients used in expensive skin care are ultimately derived from plants and plant extracts, very few are actually entirely synthesized in a chemical laboratory, For example, i read that the two primary proteins contained in milk, casein and whey, applied topically can have good water-binding properties. Caffeine has potential as an antioxidant. Resveratrol found in red grapes and red wine has anti-inflammatory properties, green tea is an antioxidants and has anti-inflammation properties, pomegranate is also antioxidant and has anticancer properties. When the financial situation demands it, people can afford to cut loose on cosmetics. Food is another story. You have to eat in order to live - so in one way, food is forever! or at least as long as you live.

Resolved Question: Why are humans the only species that pollutes to the detriment of life? Can't blame that on God can we?

Since all other life on this planet is unaware of wastes they create,.then why is it never a detriment to earths ecological system? It is a living mechanical circulatory system isn't it? It shows there is an organized design of a Supreme Creator. Most animals and fish contribute waste to their environments that are essentially the same as human waste (fecal matter laden with bacteria and reduced compounds). If the population of an environment exceeded the capability of the environment to neutralize or at least tolerate those wastes, certain organisms will begin to die. This limit is known as the "carrying capacity" of the environment. In general, nature is wise enough to not naturally reach this limit in most instances, such that most systems can self regulate themselves and avoid reaching this limit. There are examples of individual organisms that can excrete specific pollutants or toxins into an environment, usually as a defense mechanism. There are also plenty of examples of organisms that can detoxify and store pollutants from an environment in their bodies, making the overall environment "safer" (until the organism dies, at which point some toxins can be re-released to the environment). Resolved Question: Why atheism is illogical?

First of all I have no agenda against atheists, I just want to hear their explanations. If anything I respect anyone who takes the time and thought to answer the "God question". The way I see it there are two main categories in the existential evidence of God. First is the physical universe, and second the conscience or testimony of humanity. The Bible states in Psalms 19 that the "heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament the work of His hands". If you don't believe that God created the heavens and the earth Where did everything come from? This is not a new question but really there are only two options; either inorganic and organic matter/elements always existed and were never created, or they were "created" or came into being from nothing. The same thing can be said about God - either He was created or always was. Surely the existence of anything (from the computer you are looking at, to the trees outside) proves the existence of a creator, or that its evolution can be traced to no beginning, there is no other possibility. Our physical laws show that matter cannot be created - nor has ever been observed to be created. This leaves us with God (or something) as the creator and eternal power. Second question - Not only do we observe the physical nature around us - but it is threaded with extraordinary complexity. A DNA polymerase (makes DNA replication possible), mathematical proofs, scientific order, gravitational analysis, nuclear fusion, etc. are all examples of either: a random (and extremely fortunate) series of events which all (and there are thousands of examples) happen to have come into order; or they are examples of God's writing of the laws we study in the physical universe. Does it really make sense that the complexities came into being without a divine hand orchestrating the event? Other questions - where did water come from (comets? then where did the "water comets" come from?)? I am not here to rip on evolution but seriously, where did the first organic cell come from (was it non-living material?)? Secondly is the conscience of humanity / witness of those who do believe in God. Where in the evolutionary sequence did a conscience enter into the process? Wouldn't compassion, honesty, mercy, care, etc., have been seen as a weakness when introduced into the evolutionary process? Wouldn't any organism to show those tendencies have been destroyed in the competition of resources? Our conscience reflects the character of God inside of us, where else did it come from? Not only do we have a conscience, but the laws in our land are governed by what most people agree to be right and wrong. This conscience governs the day to day lives of all of us, many atheists are "moral" people (and some of them would put so called Christians to shame). If there were no law in our streets there would be chaos, if there were no law in our hearts it would also be an awful existence. People wrote the laws that govern us, God wrote the law of our conscience. Another example is the testimony of a changed life. There is example after example of a person whose life was changed due to God revealing Himself to them. There are Christians who were once atheists, drug users who have quit, immoral people who have changed their ways because of what God has done. The testimony of these people holds a powerful cause. It is easy to say I don't believe in God, show me the proof. The proof is all around us, unfortunately belief in God is not enough, we must also trust in His son as a savior. But hey, you have to start somewhere.

Resolved Question: How long does nicotine stay in breast milk?

New member. Please don't comment on what a horrible mother I am. I'm currently breast feeding my baby, however, I had 2 beer and smoked half a cigarette (it was an organic American Spirit, not that it probably matters) and I'm extremely worried. I bought organic formula from a health food store with no synthetic DHA in it and I was reading labels for about 15 minutes trying to find the right one, which I am using just for tonight. My question is, how long will the nicotine stay in my system? It was a HUGE mistake, I'm very embarrassed and angry at myself. I just don't want any of the nicotine to effect my baby. Any advice is appreciated!!

Resolved Question: A thought - comments anyone?

Just as we thought the world at one time was flat? Now we think life cannot exist without water. Why is that? What if existince of another form is composed of organic metals, or electricity? Why would it not be possible to encounter alien life that defy's our logic but perfectly natural in thier eyes? I still think humanity is very premitive including me! We may have expanded greatly on evolution but if you think about it - the Universe is supposely billions years old and yet we existed a mere 100000000000 fraction of that time and call ourselves evolved. Like to have some other thoughts or comments relating to this matter of interest please.

Resolved Question: Ocean Question???????????????????????

can you please explain the following paragraph to me??? At the base of any food, all but a few ecosystems depend on plants to trap solar energy and produce new plant material from nutrients. In marine ecosystems, the bulk of solar energy is taken up by phytoplankton with a small contribution from seaweeds, sea grass beds and mangroves. In turn, this plant material is either grazed by zooplankton and larger filter feeders, or dies and fall to the bottom to provide food for the organisms on the seabed. Zooplankton , in their turn, are grazed by larger animals and, like the phytoplankton, when they die they also carry organic matterdown to the seabed. Material and energy are also take out of the marine food web by seabirds. The quantity of material that flows up the food web decreases at every level; this limits the top-level consumers that the ecosystem can sustain. In their turn, these amnimals return material to the bottom of the food web through their waste products and decayed matter when they die.

Resolved Question: Holistic Supplements/Remedies?

Does anybody here add any holistic supplements/essential oils to their dogs diet to aid in other problems? Brady has a problem with yeast infections on his skin (not in his ears), no matter what the diet is (we were on raw for 6 months, no improvement, we're on Orijen RR right now - his skin has gotten much better but he's still itching.) I add ACV to his water and food, I haven't been doing this lately so this could be why he's itching. I also give him a clove of garlic daily in addition to his food (tick central out here - I myself have Lyme). I'm going out later to pick up more Organic Kelp - I ran out some months ago and just keep forgetting to grab it. What do you add to your dog's diet (if anything)? I'm considering getting some essential oils at the natural grocer a few towns over when I go out (Looking into Euclyptus, Lavender, and Niaouli for the itchiness/yeast). We have done an elimination diet - and determined chicken to be the major problem. (Even when we added chicken to his raw diet - it was incredible how horribly he reacted and how fast.) He also is allergic to just about every grain apart from Oatmeal. I have also heard that Coconut Oil (Virgin) works wonders. Right now we're back to the ACV and Plain Sugar-Free Yogurt to help with the problems.

Resolved Question: How is this short story? It's pretty short, don't worry!?

I'm re-posting this cause some people didn't realize it was a short story. Anyway, I am trying a new style of writing and I need some feedback. Please don't tear me to shreds I met you at a dinner party, she was my best friend and she loved you; she wanted me to meet you. I thought you were pretentious and I didn’t like you or the way you talked about the world. I would never confess this though, my opinion mattered so much to her and she was unusually happy with you; I didn’t want to ruin it. I ran into you at the supermarket once, we exchanged awkward hello’s and you looked into my cart with your Bettie Davis eyes. Canned Soup, dry roasted peanuts, lilac hand lotion. I could tell you were thinking: unremarkable, normal. I looked at your food basket, organic fruit, recycled toilet paper and fair trade coffee. Even by means of stocking refrigerators, you were more attractive. You liked wine, and more specifically, you liked to discuss wine. You were happy, complacent…I couldn’t compare, I wouldn’t try. Once, you were drunk at her place and you fell asleep on the sofa. I sat next to you, uncomfortable, because I could no longer be on my feet (we had been dancing the night before, my limbs always ached for miles). I could smell your New Zealand Pino Noir breath in the air, practically see the zzz’s drifting from your open mouth. You slept as normal people sleep and this surprised me. From where I was sitting, I could see that your nose was slightly crooked, your eyebrows were uneven. When you awoke, I shut my eyes and let you think I had been asleep too. Though I still didn’t like you, I didn’t want you to feel embarrassed. You could have been snoring, there could have been drool dripping from your mouth. I wondered if you were studying my face just then, looking at my flaws and my features. As the weight on the couch shifted and you stood up, I heard you mutter. “Pale…” The other night I had a dream, I was invisible. I was drifting around the world, watching private scenes unfold and I was blissfully, happily content. I went to places I would never be seen in, I observed the world with no fear. I stood on a terrace overlooked the city below me, the low lights fading in the distance. There were people of different nationalities, different ages and genders and religions all around me, unaware I stood there just as predominant as ever but unacknowledged. I turned around and you were there. Only you could see me
